Q about imac storage

I have partitioned my iMac hard drive in two.

One partition contains High Sierra the other Mavericks.

Mavericks has Photoshop CS5 on it and I want to transfer all my photos from High Sierra to the Mavericks partition.

I have done this via Time Machine and saved them on the desk top in a new folder which is just over 151 Gb.

When I go to move the folder to "pictures" there is in sufficient space ( total remaining in Mavericks partition is 122Gb.)

My question is:

How can 151Gb be stored on the desktop when there is only 122Gb available?

Because the 151GB is already used, 122GB is 'remaining' to use....

try and Move them, not copy them...

Also, try it bit by bit, rather than the folder as a whole..

(as to copy, it needs the same amount of free space (151GB) to make another copy (so 302 in total), moving, should only require the same amount of space (151GB) (moving may require the full space available initially, which is why I said try bit by bit)

Another way, is to clean up any unused files and apps, to free up some space, or you could use an external drive to move them to first, then back...

If you moved the 151GB to an external, you would then have 273GB available....
