As expected, you aren't allowed to defend your home

The guy who stabbed a burglar after a brief struggle is currently facing murder charges:

Yet again, sends out a fine message to burglars that they are indeed untouchable. In the USA, you are allowed to protect your home by "any means necessary" against burglars.

In this country, should you even touch the burglar you are violating his human rights.

What would you deem as acceptable ways to protect your home? If a burglar was showing violence towards you or your property, what would you do?

If any bugger tries to enter my gaff they will get as many rounds as I can loose off from my 686 top dead centre.

All depends on the circumstances. If a knife just happened to be lying around and it was the first thing he picked up to defend himself then that would be a whole different scenario to lying in wait for a burglar armed with a knife, or having a knife to hand just in case a burglar came in.

We don't know much about the case , to be fair.

There is a long-established legal right to defend yourself in your home:

Cleared: family man who killed a 'burglar'

A VERDICT of lawful killing was recorded by a coroner this afternoon in the case of an intruder who was stabbed to death by a blind man.

spindrift your examples just demonstrate what a lottery the law currently is......

A definitive statement would be good but that's like asking for honest politicians.

Maybe, but, each trial has to be heard on its own circumstances. They can't give a blanket statement about all scenarios. This person hasn't been convicted or sentenced yet. They are still innocent.

Exactly - ther's got to be a trial because someone died - the result of the trial will be of great interest to a lot of people.

So why was the decision whether to give bail up for question; if they are innocent they are innocent until proven otherwise.... they can't have it both ways

Isn't it normal not to give bail for murder?
