Tent City in Park Hill

Recommended Posts

Not sure that this is going to be a good idea to set this up on Park Hill. As soon as word gets around Sheffield will be flooded with all sorts of waifs and strays:confused:

The poor people living in tents and sleeping in shop doors should in fact be housed in the flats at Parkhill , they were built at our expense and as social housing not luxury apartments for those that can now afford them.

Got to be better for homeless people to be living in tents and not under cardboard boxes.

Who is going to clear all their <removed> away because they certainly wont do it themselves more cost to the council or will volunteers be queueing up to do it for them

Good for them. Next time I go by I shall take my redundant dome tent and sleeping bag and see if someone can make use of it.

Well said. It's an absolute scandal that successive governments have failed to provide enough of one of the most basic amenities.

A while back when photoing the derelict section of flats complex I came across an homeless guy sleeping on the balcony part of the flat covered in cardboard. I thought it was iconic that around him was shelter that he could not use.

Im sure the owners , Urbansplash would have something to say about that .

Im surprised they havnt already objected , as a load of homeless people in tents outside their development isnt exactly attractive to prospective buyers of the new apartments they are trying to sell.

I think they are at opposite ends of park hill.

If we moved all the tents into the empty flats, you and millions of other people who specialise in writing nonsense, would be posting that the government, or Sheffield, is despicable for placing desperate people in flats that are unfit for human habitation.

This nastiness you have for anyone trying to buy their own place, especially in this risky purchase area, is the reason why the project has pretty much failed.

assuming you mean ironic, then see above.

The whole project would have worked if they had gated this complex. People would have bought then.

But why didn't they? see above again. People would just criticise people for buying something and keeping others out even if meant it seemed like a safe place to live.

Exactly what I mean. Given the choice of a tent overlooking the city, or a run down **** filled crumbling dump of a flat on the knackered side, I'd choose the tent.
