Xabi   10 #1 Posted October 23, 2018 A group of Sheffielders are currently running a crowdfunder to republish one of the books by my favourite Sheffield radical son Edward Carpenter!  Has anyone else read any of his work? He lived at Millthorpe near Chesterfield. He regularly used to get over 1000 people to his talks in the late 1800s. Sheffield was a lot different back then. He also had a cafe on Scotland Street!
 Share this content via...
bendix   10 #2 Posted October 23, 2018 Poet, philosopher, radical and so called Gay Godfather of the Left, communist, homosexual who lived openly with his lover on a commune at a time when Oscar Wilde was being imprisoned, vegetarian and aethete.  He sounds more like 2018 Nether Edge than 1880s Chesterfield.  Im not really sure why the publisher should crowdfund the book; as a publisher, they either believe its commercially viable or they don't.  But good luck to them. The crowdfunder is to raise money for the Carpenter book, and then to republish other books by Sheffield authors that are no longer available or out of print!  A worthy cause. Carpenter was one of Sheffield's great characters!
 Share this content via...
