Bypassblade   10 #5 Posted July 5, 2012 Doubt he could but as rimrunner says, he's got his eyes on other things, Sheffield was just a political stepping stone.
 Share this content via...

1978 Â Â 14 #11 Posted July 5, 2012 What do people think ? Could he stand and win another election in Sheffield ? Has he still got the trust of the people who voted for him ? Has he done his party damage or good since the coalition regarding future elections ? Â 1. People on Forums generally seem to think he couldn't, but define 'people'. Â 2. He could stand, assuming he still wanted to, and the Liberal Democrats still wanted him to. Neither is guaranteed so long before the next election. Â 3. He could win. Much can happen before the next election. Nobody really thought the Lib Dems could ever unseat the Tories in Hallam, but they did. There's no guarantee the Tories will win it back. Labour are unlikely to win the current seat, but all things are possible when the time comes. Â 4. Define 'trust' when discussing politicians! Â 5. Define 'damage and good'! It depends on point of view, long term or short term. History will judge and history doesn't always come out as predicted. Â Mud slinging all round doesn't change the basic facts that when an election comes we all decide whether we vote or not. Then we mostly vote for the least bad option at the time! When politicians claim we voted for their manifesto they're totally deluded. If we'd read them from cover to cover we'd find something to vote against in every one. Most would probably abstain. Maybe the abstentionist party will win the next election?
 Share this content via...
woodmally   10 #12 Posted July 5, 2012 Why ask these questions when you already know the answers! whats up are you bored?  Its brought up an interesting point. Rumour has it that he will be standing down anyway. Its been on the grapevine for a while. The torys will get Hallam back and the Lib dems will spend the next 5 years rebuilding.
