I'd also add that the new Mal at the Mailbox in Birmingham is great too with lots of fantastic restaurants [a Michelin starred one a few metres away] and also Denial just round the corner. It's close to the Bullring too.  When I stayed in the Lowry it had the largest bed I've ever slept in ['Emperor' size I think it was called], the decor was minimalist and the service impeccable.
