Looking for an outstanding hotel for weekend away

Recommended Posts

There is a company called McDonald Hotels (not related to the burger chain!) who has hotels all over the country. Stayed in one in the Lake District. Very nice but expensive. Depends how far you want to. Have a look on google.

I'd say for a city break, try the Malmaison in Manc or Leeds (or one of their other locations for somewhere further afield), orThe Lowry Hotel is supposed to be superb- and looks it!

For more "country hotel" type places, I can recommend the Marriott Breadsall Priory- not too far away look or further away is the Selsdon Park Hotel which, despite the unfortunate accolade of being classified as Croydon, is flipping gorgeous, ask for one of the tower rooms...

I'll second Kookykoo's recommendations of the Mal in Mancs / Leeds and the Lowry. I'd also add that the new Mal at the Mailbox in Birmingham is great too with lots of fantastic restaurants [a Michelin starred one a few metres away] and also Denial just round the corner. It's close to the Bullring too.

When I stayed in the Lowry it had the largest bed I've ever slept in ['Emperor' size I think it was called], the decor was minimalist and the service impeccable.

The Witchery is great! Fantastic wine cellar.

Check out the Handpicked hotels, think the website is http://www.handpicked.co.uk, they've got some very nice hotels spread about the country, although avoid Crathorne, it's near my home town and I know all the staff >_<
