chalga   10 #97 Posted March 19, 2018 You can quibble with timescales but at the end of the day all the players mentioned have been out at virtually the same time for a period of time that has had significant impact on the season, uniteds season took a downturn with just one key player out (Coutts).  But it's amazing what a difference one man can make, isn't it? Jim Hardie   523 #99 Posted March 19, 2018 Agreed.  But you had the option to strengthen in January and your chairman wouldn't allow it. Unless we are relegated, and I admit it's turned out a little too close for comfort, then he did right not to spend in January. Realistically any chance of promotion had gone by then. Much better to remould the squad in the close season.
 Share this content via...

But 2 teams are good examples who kicked on and now sit comfortably.  Millwall.... was on the same points as the owls at the beginning of January. They now sit 4 points off the play offs... this is a team who have only just been promoted.  Fulham, a team the owls finished above last season and sat 6 points in front of the owls at the beginning of January, are not cemented in the play offs. Had the owls got the same point return as them, they would also be sat in the play offs.  If the objective was to consolidate this season and try again next season, then not doing any business was a good plan because there's no chance of you going down, even after beating Leeds
 Share this content via...

Availability of the right players is always a problem in January and money spent then would only have been a sticking plaster patch up job. top4718 Â Â 838 #102 Posted March 19, 2018 The chance of a team lacking in confidence and in poor form suddenly waving a magic wand and bringing a crop of players in in January (with virtually no one available to move in the other direction) to totally transform the season is zero, not going to happen.
