Are Calais Migrants OUR Problem?

Recommended Posts

. . . as can be seen from the Sky story, the French authorities, by not securing their other borders to the south & east are actually causing problems for their own citizens as well as creating additional illegal immigration problems for the UK.

you can’t blame the immigrants for wanting to get to the UK.

Who wants to live in a country full of Le French people ?

Now that 'The jungle' has been dealt with at Calasis with greater security measures, it appears the problem has moved along the coast to smaller ports such as Ouistreham.

When I saw a similar report on the BBC a few weeks ago, one local's views were; "Well if the want to go to England, then let them", but as can be seen from the Sky story, the French authorities, by not securing their other borders to the south & east are actually causing problems for their own citizens as well as creating additional illegal immigration problems for the UK.

I have said this so often now that it is becoming silly, but here I go again:

The UK is as leak as a sieve when it comes to illegal migration. The 'official' border crossings are understaffed and the ports and harbours are open doors. Hundreds of thousands of small vessels enter ports unchecked every single year. Each one could potentially carry illegal migrants. Calais and the French ports are a media highlight because it is visible there (Not to mention that it appeals to the die-hard conservative nationalists who claim the Channel Tunnel was a bad idea). In the meantime the trafficking from other North Sea ports is harder to detect so doesn't get any attention. Not to mention light sea craft that can dash across at night and drop whoever they want off.

It WAS the most stupid , needless thing to ever be built. We are an island, and didnt need or want to be connected to Foreign countries . should never have been built.

I think we should also cut all cables across the seas and pull up the drawbridge entirely so we can create a blissful state of tax dodgers and privileged white country bumpkins.

Who needs a world when you can have Penistone huh!?

The clue is in the word 'Calais'.

Try reading it again.

What is your point precisely?

Britain used to be the “dirty man of Europe”, I guess in those days the rest of Europe wished the UK would build a very high wall to in the pollution.

We once had Feudalism practised in the Kingdom of England, now we all need to live together in harmony, now borders are much, much further apart, travel is now very cheap and easy.

what i read was ONE Afghan fired on a group of eritreans, no idea why, maybe an arguement started. then the eritreans obviously went into revenge mode and fought the guy and his friends with iron bars and stuff (lets face it we'd all go into survival mode if shot at)

you seem to be condoning this, of course tensions are high, but where did he get the gun from, do we need people like that in the U.K?

Watching the ITN news at 6:30pm last night.  Undercover ITN reporter gets wind of an attempt to cross The Channel by a number of migrants from a secluded beach about 20 miles from Calasis, using a motor powered dinghy.

Using a thermal image camera, ITN film 9 men of Iraqi & Afghani origin, trying to set out at 04:30am on Wednesday morning.  They fail in their attempt due to waves swamping the dinghy

Later that morning with the ITN now filming covertly amongst them on the shoreline, the men state they have paid £3,000 for the dinghy & they set off again around 9:00 am.  With the boat in the water, ITN alert both the French & UK authorities to the attempt & some time later catch up with the migrants in the English Channel.

Although both the UK & French authorities were alerted hours earlier, the French coast guard only shows up once the dinghy is in UK territorial waters, having been met by the UK coast guard & Border Force vessels.

Once again a French problem that has suddenly become ours.  Of the 9 men, 8 have been handed to immigration officials & the 9th has been handed to police for facilitating entry into the UK.

As there is clear evidence that these individuals came from France, that is where they should be returned.  It would send an appropriate message that the French should be dealing with the problem.

Asked by the ITN crew in the middle of the English Channel why they were attempting to get to England, the cry from the migrants was "Freedom."

Must remember that next time I visit France it's apparently not a free & safe country? Hmmm?

While you do have a valid point, we also have to accept some of the blame.

If your next door neighbour has a shed full of valuables known to all, and thieves are making their way across your garden, trampling your flowers, breaking your fence, you'd put part of the blame on your neighbour for his failings.

We have to ask why these migrants think the UK is such a land of milk and honey compared to our European neighbours they're going through to get here.

This might be one reason:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/09/we-want-to-work-refugees-tell-france-why-uk-is-so-attractive

Perhaps the UK needs to do some sort of blanket media campaign in the home countries of these migrants:

The UK is full, there's no work for you, no benefits, an increasing number of people intolerant to foreigners - enter at your own risk

So all the foreign gas that we import is of no good. Along with communication cables which drives things such as the internet. These are completely pointless right?
