geared   318 #2 Posted January 20, 2014 The bottom one is slightly better isn't it, if you're sure both will be supported than either is going to be better than your current CPU.  Yes you will need a cooler, both of those look like they come with it.  If you can get the first one for £25-30 that'd be ok, nice and cheap little upgrade there. geared   318 #5 Posted January 20, 2014 also info on google but think issue if amd2/amd3 you might be best just get the amd3 one  AMD confuse the hell out of me with their processor sockets, they're supposed to be compatible - but they're not really and it's all abit of a faf.  It wouldn't be that bad, but their processors aren't very good. They're always beaten to the punch by Intel.  The APU's they produce are pretty good, very good value in a laptop.
 Share this content via...

anywebsite   10 #9 Posted January 20, 2014 Your first ebay link is a Socket AM2+ processor.  Phenom 2 chips will work in either an AM2+ motherboard with DDR2 ram or an AM3 motherboard with DDR3 so he's OK, they should both be compatible. geared   318 #12 Posted January 20, 2014 You should probably look at upgrading your PSU, if it can't handle a simple CPU upgrade it must be a right POS.  Cheap power supplys have been the death of so many systems, it's a total false economy to run them.
