Question about locked phones

Recommended Posts

My wife's and my phones are on Tesco pay monthly. Mine was on a contract which ended a couple of years ago and my wife's was given to her about the same time by my daughter.

Both are on tesco mobile which uses the O2 network.

Plusnet are offering a Sim only deal with more minutes, texts and data on the EE network for less money.

Are our phones locked to Tesco mobile?

Can I just buy the Sim cards and put them in our phones.

Can we keep the same numbers?

Thanks.

Sorry about the double post

The first thing to do is to find out if the phone are locked. To do this you need to put a EE sim card in and see if it asks you for a code. If it doesn't ask for a code and works fine then it is already unlocked. If it does ask for a code then just turn it off until you can acquire the code, you can keep using it on Tesco Mobile until you do.

You can buy a EE sim card from many shops for 99p just to try the phone to see if it is locked.

Yes use can bring your own number to your new network by ringing Tesco Mobile up and asking for a PAC code. You will then have 30 days to give this code to your new provider who will then transfer your old number to your new sim card.

Phone or contact the phone company.. if the info previous doesn't work.. EE charge 8 or 9 quid to unlock a phone on their network

O2 charge nothing for unlocking. Not sure about Tesco.

But as already mentioned just try a different SIM in it :)
