Waldo   96 #1 Posted July 12, 2018 Hope someone can help...  What is the process for paying a small claims judgement; when the claimant isn't responding to your requests for instruction on how to pay?  The thing needs paying before we incur any further penalty for late payment.  Also, we haven't recieved any paperwork from the court with confirmation of the verdict and instructions on how to pay. Is that kind of thing normally sent out? How long does it normally take?  Thanks!
 Share this content via...
geared   268 #2 Posted July 12, 2018 I'd get in contact with the court, ask for all the relevant documents. If the claimant isn't responding they may offer some mediation service, at least that will show you are making attempts to pay and not dodging them.  Don't forget to keep receipts and such of every payment made
 Share this content via...
Waldo   96 #3 Posted July 12, 2018 Also...  We need to pay in way where we have evidence that payment has been made. I'm thinking a bank transfer using a reference that they provide us by email would work best. That way we have evidence that the payment relates to the specific claim number.  Does that make sense? geared   268 #4 Posted July 12, 2018 Yea, make the payment at the bank in person - you'll get a nice receipt to hold onto that way.
 Share this content via...

Yep, just sent an email to the court explaining the situation and asking their advice.  ---------- Post added 12-07-2018 at 12:17 ----------  UPDATE.  So, literally 2 minutes after sending emails to the court and claimant; we get a letter in the post; the payment instuctions we requested from the claimant... Cyclone   10 #6 Posted July 12, 2018 Were you not given the option to settle directly on the day whilst still at court?
 Share this content via...
Waldo   96 #7 Posted July 12, 2018 Were you not given the option to settle directly on the day whilst still at court?  Nope, is that normally an option presented to the losing side?  The judge just said to discuss arrangements with the claimant, outside. Cyclone   10 #8 Posted July 12, 2018 I wouldn't know from experience, just sort of assumed that the 'other side' would give you an option to pay them immediately.
 Share this content via...
