Website feedback please..

Recommended Posts

I've been messing around with my site for the last few months and just recently started to concentrate on SEO a little more, pretty much all done myself and is apparently scoring pretty high now that I have filtered out a lot of the junk but still some way to go.

So anyway, just after some honest feedback how it looks to an outsider as obviously my view is a little bias.

Thanks

A number of things spring to mind:

1. Rees and Daughters means nothing to the business you are promoting; are there any better and more relevant domain names you could use (for example B&Q is diy.com)

2. The award at the top looks made up; who is it from and why would I care as a customer

3. You should have a rolling headline banner with all your customers, it should not be tucked away at the bottom

4. Some of the images are difficult to see and don't really explain how good you are at what you do

5. I typed in 'sheffield window cleaners' into Google (which I would think is the obvious search term when looking for a sheffield window cleaner) and your website is nowhere to be found (have you registered the site with Google yet as you also don't appear in the map either?); have you thought of paying for google ads as many of your competitors are paying to get a ranking?

6. Plus the site looks 'dark and danky'; if you are cleaning company, I would want lots of blue and white on the site

7. There is no address; customers want reassurance that, if something goes wrong, they know where to find you (I'm sure nothing does go wrong but they would want that reassurance :))

8. I would split domestic from commercial and have pages specific for each customer type (for example, commercial cleans might require specialist equipment; if you have the equipment, then promote it on your site as it will give your prospective customers greater reassurance)

You asked for honesty; all the best for 2018 with it :)

Stevoroberts, I did ask for honesty but not sure if you’ve been looking at the same thing I look at.

2. It’s says quite clearly who it’s from and a quick google search for either the name on the award or as you mention sheffield window cleaner will display it.

3. Noted ✅

4. Again noted ✅

5. I am in the top 20 for 4 of the most common search terms on google although not high on your search term, if you reverse it I am .

7. Address and map are clearly listed on my contact us page.

8. Noted ✅ (It is being considered but not enough photos etc to promote commercial yet)

But thank you, some really good points there and will take them into consideration.

I agree pretty much with what Steve has said. Find a website you like the look of and create something similar with clean lines that flows. Keep it simple to start with. You can always add to it later. What package did you use to design the website?

I would put the 'Areas we cover' in the footer. This website is also with a black background but you can see straight away what they do.

Have you set-up Google Analytics so you can see how people interact with your website? It will tell you so much once you go live with it.

rebuy the domain name without the dashes.

find ANY popular website that uses dashes! you will spend your life telling people to ut them in.

I own that already and have a redirect in place as I gathered it would be a problem telling people over the phone etc my url.

I know the owner of the other site you have linked to personally so not sure mimicking his site would go down to well (I know that’s not what your suggesting), also quite interesting that you use that as an example as all the seo analysts I use, I score a lot higher than this site and all my work is my own where as that’s been outsourced.

but to be very brutal. page 2 on google may as well be page 20.

Oh, I'm only too aware of that. I personally never go to page 2 when I'm looking for something unless I'm searching in depth.

But am I not right in thinking that once you get a good seo score, even then it will take a good few weeks before that shows on google?

So for example, my seo analysis score 2 weeks ago was none existent, now I very between 80-93 (B-B+), would that mean that I can expect things to improve gradually over the next few weeks or is it almost instantaneous?

Log out of google and clear your cache

You will then see what the rest of us see.

Done that and I'm now page 1 (Very last entry on page 1)

What search terms are you using to google your site?

Clicked your link....could having location settings on have something to do with it?

My main search terms are:

window cleaner sheffield

window cleaner barnsley

window cleaner rotherham

(I currently have poor ratings for Barnsley and Rotherham (26th and 25th respectively)

Google page 1

Google map page 1

Confused...that's after I have totally cleared all history, signed out of google and restarted firefox.

You come up on Google Maps for me but we are both in S5 so that explains why.

I looked in Incognito mode in Chrome, just to make sure, and your site comes up on page 2 in Google for "window cleaner sheffield" and "sheffield window cleaner".

I would get rid of this "We expect near perfect results with every clean." I can see what you are trying to say but some might see it has you will do a good clean but miss bits. Saying something like a thorough clean every time might work better.

You might want to consider Wordpress as you get some nice templates for it. Your site looks dated but I'm guessing it is new? Something more update would be nice and also bigger pictures at the top would help - too much text.

The first scrolling banner, I'm guessing that is companies you work with? But it doesn't say, at first I thought it was ads for B & M, a hairdresser, etc.

The banner at the top with your company name goes to the bottom on a mobile. On a mobile the first thing you see is your Youtube link.

I can never understand the whole DIY website approach, unless you know what you are doing of course. It wouldn't cost that much for someone to set up a Wordpress site and a nice template. Once a Wordpress site is set-up it is easy to edit it, so you wouldn't have to keep going back to a designer to make changes.

The Atkin and Son website looks so much more professional. Your site sadly does not say professional to me.
