iansheff   84 #1 Posted August 14, 2018 Just reading the article below on the BBC. Apparently 10 of 20 Premier League clubs could have made profits in 2016-17 without fans at games.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44850888  Just shows that there is way too much money going into the PL and more should be going to the EFL and the wider leagues.  ---------- Post added 14-08-2018 at 13:20 ----------  This has gone up to 11 clubs now since I posted this earlier today.
 Share this content via...

Baron99   772 #3 Posted August 17, 2018 Well if they don't need the fans, they should reduce the tickets to £5.
 Share this content via...
MAC33 Â Â 10 #4 Posted August 17, 2018 (edited) The EPL has become a circus,a world circus like no other. Â It's sort of like NBA basketball where the standard of the league is light years ahead of any other in the world - all because of money. Â Teams like Bournemouth and Middlesboro now have access to more funds than Athletico Madrid,Marseille,Roma,Dortmund etc - it's a complete joke. Â There will come a time when UEFA are going to have to put a limit on transfer spending - otherwise English teams will have next to no competition in the Champions League and Europa Cup - short of money bags teams like Barca,Real,Bayern,PSG and possibly a few more. Â The EPL is the unofficial world club league - no doubt about it. Â Money is going to destroy the competitiveness of European club competition. Â A good example is Porto a few years back were very competitive with English teams. Â Last year they were beaten by Liverpool by a score that resembled more a cricket score - again purely due to the huge increase in funds available to English teams. medusa   16 #7 Posted August 21, 2018 Well if they don't need the fans, they should reduce the tickets to £5.   The problem with that is that as soon as you do introduce fans, you introduce a whole load of other costs associated with having all the people there, from police outside grounds to maintaining and opening the grounds in a fit state for visitors and safe staffing levels to operate turnstiles etc.   If you were to exclude attendees from matches then all of those costs could be saved too, making it more affordable for the clubs. I can't imagine that playing all of your matches in the sterile environment of having no audience would lead to great performances from players though.
