Tapton School: Offence Face Off

Recommended Posts

Funny one this. Story in Daily Mail about Tapton School:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3148318/School-refuses-display-student-s-art-mother-breastfeeding-baby.html

Basically this girl has painted some pictures of a baby breastfeeding. They've told her that it can't be displayed in a prayer room during Ramadan and she's kicking off that her work is being censored and breastfeeding discriminated against.

Now these seem to be the two major groups of people getting offended these days. Women who breastfeed and Muslims. But I actually think in this case she's being a right little madam and it's just a no-brainer. It would be out and out racism to have bare breasts in a prayer room. A bit like throwing a salami into a mosque.

I think the breastfeeders may have bitten off more than they can chew this time....

So the artwork has changed location for a short period of time - not thrown in the bin ? What's the problem

A non story from the Daily Fail trying to whip up racial tension- no change there then.

PS - nice piece of artwork Martha - good luck with your results

Pps - if no one objected to the art work why was it removed ?

In a nutshell its politically correct leftwingers again causing the problem. Muslims dont have a problem with it. Her parents dont have a problem with it.

It seems all the time there are a group of left wingers that find offence to everything think other groups feel the same and act without thinking. Banning ba ba blacksheep in schools is another example of this.

?

I knew someone would put that.

But seriously why not just move them to another place?

If it was appropriate to the course and everyone else's is still in situ it does seem unfair

Nice artwork....... but that girl is making a mountain out of a molehill. What is the problem ?

Other pupil's artwork are displayed elsewhere too not just hers. She's got a lot of growing up to do and should stop throwing her dummy out of the pram. Her mother is not doing her any favours either.

But thats not even the issue. The Daily Fail mentions that no muslims are offended. In fact its just the school being over cautious.

Maybe the school should have asked those using the temporary prayer room if the artwork offended them before they acted.

By making assumptions they have possibly caused more offence.

AKA sensitive and respectful.

Qualities that any school should promote.

How did your school do on that score?

article says they have moved them to another place and are on display in school

it says that only a small number of artworks were displayed in the prayer room, the majority is elsewhere in school.
