Hard work?.

i doubt it?no way there are enough paying customers for all those eateries to turn enough profit to survive.

Just search just eat.com they all on there and cover a 10 mile plus radius ..that's a hole lot of people and some are very busy when I say very busy I talking £25k a week plus. For a fast food place this is busy with the evg throughout uk being around £10k.. And there average profit is around 45p in the £ or 45%. Not bad business for those that work at it

I counted them once as part of my former job. From Sharrow Lane to St Mary's Gate there were over 50 food outlets.

Some, like Zuegma, are always successful and busy, others are here today and gone tomorrow...and others survive by not bothering to pay their taxes.

Agree. I was stuck in slow moving traffic, going into town & counting the left hand side of London Road, including pubs such as Barry's Bar which also sells food, around 40+ from memory.

So double it & that'll be 90 - 100 places to eat in a about a mile from Highfields Library to whatever the old Hermitage pub is called now.

Why not go on Google Earth & take a stroll down London Rd & have a count up oj both sides?

Some businesses survive by being cash only. That's not necessarily to avoid tax, either.

I'm not suggesting that any of the eateries on London Road fall into that category.

The ice cream shop owners dad is a very rich businessman, stop making insinuations about businesses and people you know nothing about.

Things like the ice cream parlour and various coffees shops are often popular with students or overseas visitors who don't drink, and don't fee comfortable with the pub culture. It's a place to socialise without the pub. Its not hard to see how it would be a good addition to the area really.

The mrs and I regularly take a trip to London Road to eat - some of our favourite restaurants are there. Sheffield's a city of over 500,000 people, there's plenty of business to go round.
