Bilge   34 #2 Posted February 3, 2017 Is this date any more likely to be achieved than the previous ones?  Imagine - one day we'll be able to get a train from Sheffield to Rotherham via Meadowhall. We will be whisked to Parkgate steelworks in less than an hour.
 Share this content via...
Fudbeer   12 #3 Posted February 3, 2017 How many buses/trains an hour already run on the Sheffield Meadowhall Rotherham part I bet its in double figures has to be one of the best served routes already, really don't see the need. It's already been explained, numerous times, this is a trial paid for by central government and the number of available people able to use it is irrelevant, it's merely about testing the technology. I know, its the various bodies not working with each other so there is something that needs to be looked at in future projects
 Share this content via...
1978 Â Â 14 #6 Posted February 3, 2017 It's already been explained, numerous times, this is a trial paid for by central government and the number of available people able to use it is irrelevant, it's merely about testing the technology. Â If the cash has to be found for further developments of this type the technology needs to be shown as simple and effective. However, before embarking on another similar scheme, anywhere, any operator will take into account experience elsewhere. If, after all the delays this scheme is poorly supported by travellers it will deter replication. Â In previous generations both tram and rail routes were built that were abandoned within a decade or two. Ridership will matter. The more who use it the more it will encourage or discourage other schemes; the apparent complexity and delays seen so far need a lot of good press to overcome wariness of those needing to negotiate financial support. Nearest stop to Meadowhall will be Carbrook.  ---------- Post added 03-02-2017 at 09:37 ----------  And, yet again, the trial is not looking at how many people use the thing  The joke service X1 travelling via Meadowhall leaves the door open for a direct link that does not serve the chav creche. Enter tram train. Wonder if that was the idea when insisting the X1 went that way.
 Share this content via...
Beligerence   10 #10 Posted February 3, 2017 Will not serve Meadowhall unless you count passing through the same postcode. Nearest stop to Meadowhall will be Carbrook. .  It will serve the current tram stop that is next to The Source, for parts of Meadowhall its actually a better stop to get off at. Guest   #11 Posted February 3, 2017 And, yet again, the trial is not looking at how many people use the thing 2. What is the Tram Train pilot? The Tram Train project is a trial or ‘pilot’ being held in South Yorkshire to see if the technology can be used elsewhere in the UK. It will run for two years while customer satisfaction, passenger numbers, reliability and costs are tested. The lessons learned will be published for the benefit of the rail industry and other areas. Tram Train will carry on as a local service if it is successful. From the FAQ pdf here.
 Share this content via...
