Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how much it costs to use the Lightwood Centre at Norton and what are the opening times.

Contact details would be very appreciated thanks.

It's five pound an hour.

It's open 7 days a week and I would think it would close when it goes dark.

I wouldn't bother though, get insured on the road as a learner.

The place is rubbish, full of potholes and if you aren't insured for off road driving and you have an accident then obviously you're in trouble.

£5.00 per hour and I think 9am - 4pm, 7days. My 15yr old had a great time, hopefully it will save a bit on the driving lessons in the future!

If they still do the intensive driving course on Saterday morning thats well worth it - I did it for four weeks and then only needed about 1/2 a dozen lessons on the road before passing my test :o

Correct - the place is rubbish - yet it could be so much better if the people who bought it off the council did a bit of maintenance.

Stick to the large tarmac area to teach basic starting and stopping, 3 point turns etc. These basics are probably best taught away from the highways. But even in that massive area you have to watch out for giant lumps and bumps.

The majority of the roadways(?) are really narrow with bushes and trees sticking out into the road and more potholes than you'd care to drive over.

Do any driving instructors use it?

Yes, agreed you do have to try and avoid all the lumps and potholes and it would be good if it was maintained properly but then the price would probably rise and outprice its self.

Simple answer is 'NO'.

We used to use it for training under-17's but its got so run down as people have said, that we found it was doing more harm than good.

Never heard of this! If they are running something like this then its illegal as only approved driving instructors ike myself are allowed to charge for giving driving lessons, even off road.

There is nothing, like IanMitchell said, to substitute for proper on-road experience with an ADI, and as he also said, unless you have specialist insurance, if you do have an accident your insurance company will NOT cover it and you'll have to pay for the rrepairs out of your own pocket.

And watch out for other drivers.

When I went there were parents letting their 12 year old kids drive. I had to do an emergency stop when one of them cut infront of me and my dad.

It's stupid- if it was to be bought by the council and done up then it should be strictly prohibited to people with valid licenses (learners or normal).

The actual lower age limit is posted as 15, so if you do see anyone under that age you should report it to the man at the gate.

Can anyone recommend a good woman driving instructor who would give a nervous learner a bit of confidence behind the wheel.
