Andy C   86 #1 Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) Its time for my annual ticket guide, a bit of public service posting! There are some price increases from 2nd January - generally if multi-operator, trains or Chesterfield is involved.  The list is extensive and looks complicated, however it can be narrowed down and made simpler with the following steps 1) is it just one days travel you need or are you travelling regularly and would benefit from a weekly or longer ticket? 2) Are you travelling with one operator or do you want the flexibility to use any? 3) Are you travelling within Sheffield or further afield? 4) Are you an adult, child, student or family group?  Note I've not included tickets for just train travel, these are generally issued for specific point to point journeys although some rover tickets are available for off peak travel - see http://www.nationalrail.co.uk for train fares.  ADULT DAY TICKETS  All are available to buy on board from the bus driver or tram conductor. tinfoilhat   11 #2 Posted December 27, 2017 I haven't been on a bus since the mid 90s but, and I'm being genuine about this, your tireless efforts year after year to keep SF and wider community informed deserve greater recognition than you currently receive.  Well played as always sir! Geo-atkinson   10 #3 Posted December 28, 2017 Does a good job and the information is invaluable.  Why would anyone pay £4.00 to travel on TM crappy buses and threadbare service and not be able to use the ticket elsewhere?  I've had a revolutionary brilliant idea. Lets run public transporrt for the benefit of the passengers.  No, I know, Its all too much....
 Share this content via...

Annie Bynnol   612 #5 Posted December 28, 2017 Another useful day ticket for some is the Derbyshire Wayfarer Ticket:  Valid from/to Sheffield on buses and trains to: East Midlands Airport*, Burton, Uttoxeter, Macclesfield, Leek, Derby, Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock, Castleton, Edale and New Mills, Chesterfield, Ilkeston.  "£12.60 for an adult (plus one child under 16) £6.30 for a senior citizen (aged 60 or over), a child under 16 (a dog may travel in place of a child) or a holder of a Gold Card or other English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) pass £23 for a group of up to two adults and up to three children (a dog may travel in place of a child)." further info here  *not East Midlands Parkway other restrictions apply as well such as no trains before 9am on Mondays to Fridays only. Fares are going up.  PS if we don't use these buses to Derbyshire they will end soon as Derbyshire cannot afford the subsidy. Andy C Â Â 86 #7 Posted January 15, 2018 Another little bit of news - from 22nd January First will be accepting contactless debit cards for payment on board for single and day tickets. Â Weekly tickets won't be available on contactless payment, however First week tickets are available on the m-ticketing app and Citybus/Citywide tickets are available from vending machines at Interchanges. Â This will mean both Stagecoach and First offering contactless card payment on buses.
 Share this content via...

They just have the launch date as the 22nd. But machines are ready and drivers have been briefed and told they can accept contactless from the 12th. As Andy C has stated only single and day tickets so far you can't use contactless for weekly tickets yet.
 Share this content via...
EmmaJones76   10 #9 Posted January 18, 2018 Thanks for the info! £16.80 a week for a bus that comes every hour and a half, the cheek!  You can get on any bus, not just that one.
 Share this content via...
Guest   #10 Posted January 19, 2018 Not in my area, they've pulled numerous buses - used to be one every 20 minutes. One bus from Killamarsh/Eckington to city centre every 90 minutes isn't good enough.  There are buses from Eckington every 35-45 mins and that's just the 50 from what I can see. Depends how far you have to walk to a bus stop I guess.
 Share this content via...
Andy C   86 #11 Posted January 20, 2018 (edited) To be pedantic Eckington and Killamarsh aren't in Sheffield, they are Derbyshire towns... although surprisingly Sheffield travel tickets are extended that far out of town.  From Eckington: 50/50a/50b is every half hour and the 252 is every half hour. There is also the 53 less frequently.  From Killamarsh: The 71/72 runs hourly.  Additionally from both the 70/70a provide a half hourly service past Halfway tram terminus where connections can be made with a tram into Sheffield that runs up to every 10 mins.  £16.80 a week is unlimited travel on any bus or tram in Sheffield. There are cheaper single operator ticket options if you just travel on one route.  ---------- Post added 20-01-2018 at 13:44 ----------  Not in my area, they've pulled numerous buses - used to be one every 20 minutes. One bus from Killamarsh/Eckington to city centre every 90 minutes isn't good enough.  They get pulled because local people didn't support them. Less ticket sales equal less services and Derbyshire County Council can't afford to subsidise laying on extra non commercial services.
