How to obtain a council house?

Recommended Posts

I read an article in the Guardian praising Sheffield Council for its policy on building new homes. It seems that there was a massive building programme over the past year or so at Manor and Darnall. Cutlers View and Brearley Springs were mentioned, and more to be built 2020 onwards. Is the reality somewhat different for actually obtaining one?

You forgot to add "foreigner" to the list, a load of new houses have been build on the council estate near me, half of them cannot speak English.

good luck to you

Maybe because they have other needs more pressing than simply you wanting a lifestyle change? Genuine question.

None of the 293 built by the Sheffield Housing Company are actually 'council' houses. 70 properties were/are for rent, to get one people need to register with SCC. The majority are for outright sale, plus some for shared ownership.

I thought you just got yourself pregnant at 16 and became a single mum to get one? Has something changed?
