Cue moans from people saying that there are far too many hotel rooms in Sheffield without providing any basis for this in fact, and how that part of Sheffield should go back to how it was before....

Probably wants Sheffield City Centre to go back to the 1980s with all the boarded up shops and the stinking subways.

And the Hole in the Road and the dirty stinking market, apparently everything was better back then....

Good news this.

Will also have some new retail space and a gym apparently. Another improvement.

And the main city tram stop is just at the door just the same as it was when Primark was in the building .

good idea for a shopping area that.

Hole in the road was ok as was the market.

They are knocking down the bit that was the main entrance and the hotel is going to be the bit above KFC or the other way round?

I was kinda hoping the entire place would be flattened and something a little less fugly built in it's place.

For all those complaining about too many hotel bedrooms just remember that at this moment of time 100+ bedroom hotel is being demolished on Charter square.

From the town layout point of view it really does appear as though the council want to keep all retail activity from the bottom of Fargate up to the new Moor market with an obvious spur toward Devonshire Green and the new retail quarter.

This is quite a change for those of us of a certain age who recall the long linear shopping street from the Moor to the Castle Market.

With an Easy hotel and the new Sheffield Hallam University complex in the old GPO I hope that the 'square' of Fitzalan has money allocated to it. So many 'squares' have been tidied and yet that one remains the poor relation.
