There's an old cricket ground just above the football pitch at the top of Bridle Stile in Mosborough. You can clearly see where the square was due to the flat area on a sloping field. There are also remains of some benches and the old hut. I've no idea when it was abandoned but it must be 20+ years ago at least.

Is the cricket pitch in Stannington still in use?

The Waterworks used to have a cricket and football pitch with tennis courts on Crookes Road.

Didn't Dormer Tools used to have a sports club somewhere up Dyche Lane ? Is it still there ?

Morning redshadow, Yes the sports area is still there off Dyche Lane.

On Abbeydale Road South, just past the entrance to the Abbeydale sports club, where the 5 Trees estate now stands, there was an old pavilion, which I believe was used by the allotment society that existed there. This pavilion once fronted a cricket pitch, on which I believe Derbyshire once played. That area was in Derbyshire many years ago.

Confirmation if possible by someone on the facts I have just stated !

The bottom of Whitley lane at the Ecclesfield end, used to be Batchelors sports ground. That's now gone to be used for horses.

Was used up to the late 70's.

Also on the end of Clay Wheels Lane before you turn right to head up to FoxHill. There used to be a rugby ground for Sheffield Oaks, but I'm sure it was a works football ground before.

Here I am again, keep thinking of places to mention.

Lets not forget that the sport of Pedestrianism ( running ) was very popular during the late 19th and early part of the 20th century.

My Grandfather was involved and ran at venues such as the Sheaf House grounds on Bramall Lane, the Ball Inn, top of Myrtle Rd and a location on Langsett Rd opposite the Barracks. There is a pub on the corner where the sports ground once stood. Can't remember it's name at the moment.

Thanks Runningman; I used to work at Dormer in the 1980s and visited the sports ground on several occasions. I think that there used to be an annual football competition between various departments of the company. I took some photos once... must still have them somewhere... probably 1986
