The Consequences of Brexit [part 5] Read 1st post before posting

(Rough figures)

Total electorate 46,500,000

People who voted for Brexit 17,400,000

That leaves 29,100,000.

That is where the figure comes from. Of course that includes a lot of people who didn’t vote at all, and we can’t assume they were anti brexit, so whilst it’s technically correct to say that’s the figure of people who didn’t vote for Brexit, it is rather misleading.

So 30,500,000 didn't vote for remain.

If you didn't vote in the referendum and hadn't a valid reason not to then you can't complain about the outcome. The 30 odd million who could be bothered have that right.

If you had no valid reason not to vote in referendum or any election then you have nothing to complain about the outcome.

Yes, the millions who were 16 or 17 back then but who are now old enough to vote need to shut up and accept what's coming. You should know your elders know what's best for you.

Just the same as those young who didn't get a chance to vote 1975, your point is ?

it is rather misleading.

Misleading how?

I am not and never have tried to claim that everyone who didn't vote were remain supporters. It doesn't really matter whether they were or not.

The government held an advisory referendum in which of the 46 odd million people were eligible to vote. Only 17 odd million of them voted to leave. That is only 39% of those eligible and is certainly not high enough to go forward on and certainly does not represent the will of the people.

From the Brexiteers' DM... at least we had a say in the EU :) ..outside it we're at the vagueries of people like Trump with absolutely no input to their decisions..

'EUROPE'S LEADING IDIOT' Smug European Commission boss Martin Selmayr slammed for gloating tweet celebrating the EU after England’s heartbreaking World Cup defeat=

I'd have more sympathy if we hadn't been so smug over our previous wins and that we blindly assumed it was "coming home".

The way some people have been in mourning today is pathetic. No doubt Elton John will be re-recording Candle In The Wind as we speak.

And that's before we get to trade deals with India and china which will involve many immigrants heading our way. Our "boss" won't be the EU anymore it will be many other "bosses" instead - some nicer than others.

It's nothing to do with your elders know better. Until the voting age is lowered then like you and me who couldn't vote until we were 18 they have to except the outcome of election results. They may not like the outcome but they will have their chance to vote and change things in future elections.

It was interesting to hear on the news what President Trump's interpretation of BREXIT is. He believes those who voted to leave the EU wanted out. I think if every poster was honest on here, instead of posting nonsense about what it didn't say on the ballot paper, then we would all agree with President Trump, regardless of the way we personally voted.

The honest thing to say would be that no-one who voted had any firm knowledge what leaving would look like in reality.
