Speeding up an older Android tablet

I have a 3 year old Lenovo 10" Tablet, one of the mid to low spec £100 ones

It definitely seems pretty slow these days, not much in the ways of Apps on it but even internet crawls along

Can I do anything to strip it back - would that even speed it up any?

What else can you do?

I had similar problems with my 2012 Google Nexus, even after restoring to factory mode. I've found that using firefox rather than chrome as my browser has speeds up t'internet no end.

You can possibly find a custom or "lite" rom for it, have a brows through xda developers website/forum...

Doesn't help the OP, but had a similar issue with mine after it had updated to Android 5; reverted it to 4.4 and back reasonably fast again.

If it has 1Gb of RAM, very little I'm afraid.
