Stabbing at Corp night club 10/09/2018

Explain then how they would reduce or stop it?

An increased police presence, including stop and search policies implemented wisely and with intelligence, would have a serious impact on the decision of many to carry knifes in the first place. The more chance of it being a problem, the less likely someone is to carry a knife for the first time.

There's not enough time/space to get into the fact that carrying a knife is often the end result of a lot of causes that fester due to a lack of policing: policing in one area (such as for instance tackling drug dealing) has a knock on effect on the amount of people willing to carry a knife. Everything is interlinked.

Now I'd invite you to explain how the serious Tory cuts in police funding have nothing to do with the large rise in knife/gun crime......

It's a shame its happened now the music genre upstairs has changed. Corp is known for being an alternative club, and hasn't ever had anything like this happen until the rock music was replaced by the kind of music found in clubs that attract this type of person. Of course it could just be a coincidence...

They've been playing non-rock music upstairs for close to a decade now

but they had to cut back on it because people claimed racism.

I didn't realise 'person holding a knife' was a distinct race?

It's just a convenient finger pointing exercise though, we lost control of discipline and respect a long time ago, police stop and search was and has always been blighted by accusations of racism, there aren't enough police to do it not just because of cuts but because there will never be enough. Easy policing is what we have mostly now, driving offences and football matches seem to get the resources :suspect: Couple that with all the new offences of 'nasty hate' crime that use police resources !

Well stop and search has to be implemented wisely and be intelligence led of course. But the only way to do that is by having police gaining intelligence and working with and within communities. But there's no funding for them to do that anymore.....

Absolutely. It's shameful that some people consider it acceptable that we're at the stage that some crimes should be ignored or regarded as "not as important" due to funding cuts.

All crimes are important if you're at the receiving end of them, and all should be taken seriously.

So what are you advocating - more or less police or the same?

If numbers of police have no bearing on crime perhaps we could get rid of them altogether.

'Licence under review' apparently.

Not sure what that means - but I would imagine it will be closed for a little while, then reopen with enhanced security measures in a similar way to other places in Sheffield that have had incidents.

Reopens tomorrow (Weds 12th).

That was quick, would have expected a few weeks closed at least.
