Disgusting strike action on London underground.

Recommended Posts

They really will. Guards on Southern, ticket sellers on the tube: just the start. Drivers will be going next.

And is that a good thing? More and more people unemployed. Someone has to generate wealth, it does not grow on trees. Unless you are running an orchard.

Yes. It makes them more reliable and cheaper.

Also robots don't strike.

It may happen in the future. The drivers need cameras, on the train and on the station, every station is different.

Long trains, curved platforms, many operators will need to splash out ££££

It will be better to keep the guards, as the eyes of the train.

Its not easy for them to see if someone has fallen beneath the train though, have you heard of the ale trail?

I can see you are a warm and compassionate man.

I gather the ghosts made little impression this Christmas Eve :)

especially if we have to import them; costs have risen considerably in the last six months. Can't think why though

Depends what you want to use them for.

They already exists for ticketing (I very rarely get a ticket from an actual person). Driverless trains already exist (the DLR).

Not that far. Turns out you don't need to be sapient to drive a train and you certainly don't to sell a ticket.

If the UK gets driverless cars (with no rails, switching and networked signalling to guide them) before driverless trains, that's messed up.

still going to be cheaper than striking train drivers:roll: where do you get cost have risen considerably? maybe slightly with dollar price but not significantly.

What will people that cannot down load a ticket or live in a remote place where they have a station with no ticket machine?

Such places will need to have ticket machines, or such machines might be placed on the trains. The situation you describe will be rather rare. It's the future you know.

Obviously you wouldn't get rid of the ticket staff before you had a ticket machine (or two) installed..

My point is that ticket machines already exist. Not every station has them yet, although even the really small ones are getting them, but there is no reason that they can't be placed in every station right now. The technology is there.
