Personally I choose local pubs with local people, no pretentiions, no fancy cask beer or real ale, and no snooty judgemental people.  I used to use the Firwood a lot throughout the 80's and early 90's. It served real ale then and was a thriving local - used to love going in Sunday dinner when they came round with the Yorkshire Pudding.
