  1. It is my pleasure to read your comment above, Sarah. Thank you for passing by.
  2. Yes, you should be able to find brown rice in one of the major supermarkets such Tesco or Asda. Give it a go!
  3. Indeed, it is good to know it. Thanks for taking time to read this post.
  4. You welcome Darth. I am glad that someone found it useful.
  5. No offence to anyone here, it seems that a sentence that was included in the article has been taken out of context. The purpose of this article was to give an insight to users about the possible ways by which an old newspaper can be re-used. Nothing more or less. Maybe I will have to be extra cautious about the language I use in future articles hence some people find it amusing.
  6. Very much indeed. You are accurate in your suggestion, this is american english-based site, the dialect is now dominating the teaching academies everywhere as I guess you would notice. And indeed, the points you raised were very interesting to someone who has an interest in the Grammar of the language(like myself). I do thank you in my turn for bringing this to my attention, hopefully I will keep looking for useful articles in this field to post it here. Bye for now.
  7. So many of the things we use today can be recycled and re-used.. Here is just some of the ways to re-use old newspapers: 1. As a window cleaner, moisten (don't soak) newspapers slightly and wipe over you car windows, house windows, mirrors, etc. I can tell you personally, this beats any commercial window cleaner! And streak-free! Saves your hands and lungs from those dangerous chemicals. 2. As a moisture and odour absorbent, just roll into a ball and place inside your wet, damp or stinky shoes, This is for rainy season! You can also do this if your storing them for a period of time, helps keep them in shape. 3. For your pets, for placing inside birdcages, or under you cat's litter box or just for them to get warm in or to play with. My cats love to roll in it, especially when they get wet in the rain! You can also place inside the litter box, before you fill it, helps absorb the odours. 4. As door mats for your house or car, again this helps out a lot in the rainy season. 5. In the kitchen, use to place you hot pots and pans on until they cool off. 6. Inside your trash can, place on the bottom of your trash can before you place the plastic bag, absorbs odours and mess in case of leaks. 7. In your driveway or garage floor, helps to soak up those little oil spots from your concrete floor. 8. As a wrapping, for your fragile (glass, ceramic, etc) items, if your storing them or when you're moving. Even items that are not necessarily breakable, like wood furniture, etc, if you're moving, you can use it to keep the edges from get scratched or damaged. 9. As a fire starter, when you're barbecuing or just lighting charcoal or wood for incense burning; tear into little strips to use get the fire going. Again, avoiding the use of dangerous chemicals. Number was deleted by the user who has published this article after it has caused some controversy to the users. These are only some of the many ideas, they are so many others, like arts and crafts for kids, etc. And don't forget, if you live in an area that recycles newspapers (or any other item), please recycle them, Do your part to make this planet a better place for your children and future generations.
  8. Thank you. Yes, the Omega Fish Oils are extremely healthy, probably for joints and tendons.
  9. Yes, here are some references. 10. I understand that you mean the red wine. Yes, the red wine that is made from grape fruit may has some benefits in it, however it also has some harms to the human body, specially the liver, and I wouldnt be surprised if the harms outweighed the benefits. So personally I would not consume it hence the natural healthy alternative is easily available. I hope this helps.
  11. It could be. Generally green fruits and vegetables are healthier to consume.
  12. Green tea is well known and extensively researched for its many health benefits. It contains the highest concentration of beneficial phytonutrients of all the teas. The following studies highlight recent findings of some more benefits for this healthful drink. Green tea drinkers live longer Drinking green tea is associated with extending your lifespan, suggested a Japanese study recently. The study, reported in the October issue of the Annals of Epidemiology found that elderly Japanese people who drank seven or more cups of green tea a day were less likely to die prematurely than those who drank less than one cup a day. Researchers followed 14,001 people ages 65 to 84 years old for six years for their green tea consumption habits. During the follow-up, 1,224 participants died. The researchers found that green tea consumption was associated with reduced mortality from all causes, and cardiovascular disease among elderly people. Research paper details: Suzuki E, Yorifuji T, Takao S, et al. Green tea Consumption and Mortality among Japanese Elderly People: The Prospective Shizuoka Elderly Cohort. Annals of Epidemiology Volume 19, Issue 10, Pages 732-739 (October 2009) Green tea helps weight loss Drinking tea with a high level of catechins, beneficial antioxidant compounds found mainly in green tea, is linked to helping moderately overweight people lose weight, a study suggests. The study conducted at Fudan University in Shanghai China, and published in the journal obesity, involved 182 moderately-overweight Chinese men and women ages 18 to 55. For the study, the researchers gave subjects two daily doses of tea with various concentrations of catechins ranging from 30 to 900 milligrams. During the 90-day follow-up, they measured the study participants for their body weight, body fat mass and fat distribution. At the end of the study, those who consumed the highest amounts of catechins lost more weight, inches, fat and total lean mass than those who had the lowest intake of catechins. The green tea compounds are particularly effective at disposing fat located in the abdominal area, according to the study. Research paper details: Wang H, Wen Y, Du Y, et al. Effects of Catechin Enriched green tea on Body Composition. Obesity (2009) Green tea reduces stomach cancer risk A new study published in the journal Gut suggests that drinking five or more cups of green tea each day may help reduce the risk of stomach cancer in women. Researchers at the National cancer Center in Tokyo analyzed data from six studies of 219,000 men and women ages 40 years and older. Those who drank five or more cups of green tea a day were 20 percent less likely to develop stomach cancer, the researchers found. The antioxidants found in green tea are thought to protect against gastric cancer and fight bacteria that have been linked to an elevated risk of stomach cancer. Research paper details: Inoue M,Sasazuki S,Wakai K, et al. Green tea consumption and gastric cancer in Japanese: a pooled analysis of six cohort studies. Gut 2009;58:1323-1332. Green tea extract helps remove facial wrinkles LED light therapy along with a lotion prepared from green tea extract is found to be much more effective at removing facial wrinkles than the conventional methods, German researchers reported. According to the report published in the journal Crystal Growth and Design, high-intensity light from LEDs (light emitting diodes) is conventionally used to treat wrinkles, but the addition of green tea extract in lotion-form boosts the anti-wrinkle effect by ten times. One downside of the light therapy is that the intense LED light creates high levels of reactive oxygen species, or free radicals, which can damage cells. Because of this, the researchers tested the potency of an antioxidant found in green tea extract called epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG. The researchers said the therapy based on LED and EGCG only needed one-tenth of the time that would otherwise be required for the conventional LED therapy. Research paper details: Sommer et al. Facial Rejuvenation in the Triangle of ROS. Crystal Growth & Design, 2009.
  13. Coconut oil is a natural and highly beneficial oil for healthy, youthful, disease-free skin and hair. When coconut oil is applied topically or taken internally, it helps to keep the skin soft and smooth and gives hair a beautiful shine, whilst at the same time reducing the effects of aging and preventing infections from entering the skin. Unlike conventional lotions and body care products, coconut oil is a natural product and is therefore free from harsh, potentially toxic chemicals and other additives. Protects the Skin The chemical structure of coconut oil consists of medium-chain fatty acids, which are small molecules, making it easily absorbed into the skin and hair. The skin consists of an outer protective layer that acts as a barrier, stopping harmful organisms from penetrating the skin. This is an oil called sebum, and is very important to skin health. Like coconut oil, it contains medium-chain fatty acids, and helps to lubricate the skin and hair, and prevent fungal and bacterial infections from entering the body. This protective layer can be washed away by bathing or through broken skin. Applying coconut oil to the skin quickly re-establishes this natural chemical barrier, by increasing the number of antimicrobial fatty acids on the skin and therefore protecting it from infection. anti-aging Oils have a visible effect on all tissues of the body, especially connective tissues. These tissues are found in the skin, muscles, bones, nerves and internal organs, and support the framework for all body tissues, holding everything together. These give skin strength and elasticity. As the skin ages however, these tissues are attacked by free radicals, which cause it to sag and wrinkle. The only way to fight this free radical damage is with antioxidants, therefore it is essential to have plenty of antioxidants in our cells and tissues to protect them. The number of antioxidants in our tissues is largely determined by the nutrients in our diet. However, coconut oil has also been found to be the ideal lotion for protecting it against damage, promoting healing and giving it a healthy, soft, youthful appearance. Moisturizing Pure coconut oil is an excellent natural skin moisturizer. It prevents free radical formation and the damage it causes. It helps prevent the skin from developing blemishes causes by aging and other factors. It is absorbed into the skin and keeps connective tissue strong and supple so that skin doesn't age prematurely. This wonderful oil also makes an ideal ointment for the relief of dry, rough and flaky skin. It helps to remove the layer of dead skin cells on the outer surface of the skin, leaving it smoother, evenly textured and moisturized. Healing and Repair Coconut oil has been found to help stimulate healing and repair. Some of its reported health benefits for skin include helping with: * Inflammatory conditions like psoriasis * Acne * Fungal infections like athlete's foot * Sunburn * Healing cuts, bruises and sprains, and reducing scarring * Insect bites How to Use coconut Oil To use coconut oil on the skin, massage in a small amount and reapply it often. The oil is quickly absorbed into the skin and doesn't leave a greasy film like commercial lotions and oils do. Coconut oil will gradually soften the skin with regular use, removing dead layers, and encourage the growth of new, healthier tissue. For severely dried or cracked skin, apply a liberal amount of coconut oil to the affected area, wrap it loosely in plastic or a towel, and leave it on overnight or at least a few hours. Repeat this process until the condition improves. Coconut oil can be used on the entire body. Massage it into the skin for best results. It can also be used on the face to improve complexion and smooth out any blemishes. Hair Care Coconut oil makes a great hair conditioner. It gives hair a healthy shine, is great for the scalp and helps to control dandruff. It helps to reestablish a healthy skin environment by replacing natural oils that may have been washed away. Studies have shown that using coconut oil on the hair can help prevent combing damage and improve its overall health and appearance. One study, in particular, found that compared to sunflower and mineral oils, coconut oil was the only one that reduced protein loss for both undamaged and damaged hair when used both pre-wash and post-wash. The authors explained this difference was due to the composition of the oils. coconut oil, being rich in medium-chain triglycerides is able to penetrate inside the hair shaft, protecting it from protein loss as well as giving it body. The other two oils have a different composition and therefore have no positive impact on protein loss. Only coconut oil can protect the hair and prevent hair damage, so it is clearly the best oil to use for hair. To use, massage warm coconut oil into the hair, leave in on overnight, and wash it out in the morning. For a more intensive treatment, soak the hair thoroughly in the oil for an hour or two, before washing. Types of coconut Oil There are two types of coconut oil: processed and virgin. The difference between the oils depends on the amount of processing the oil undergoes and the type of coconut used. Processed oil is made from dried coconuts and has usually undergone extensive processing such as refining, bleaching and deodorizing, and is the type typically used in foods and cosmetics. "Virgin" signifies an oil that has undergone less refining with lower temperatures and without chemicals. It is also made from fresh coconuts, and retains its naturally occurring phytochemicals (plant chemicals). Virgin coconut oil usually has a mild coconut flavor and aroma compared to more refined oils, which have less taste, smell and are colorless. Regardless of the method of processing, however, both oils contain essentially the same amount of health-promoting medium-chain fatty acids. These fatty acids are very resistant to heat and are not harmed by processing, even at high temperatures. Therefore, all types of coconut oils are considered healthy oils. Pure coconut oil should be a crystal clear liquid in warm conditions, and becomes a hard, white solid in cooler climates. This process does not affect the quality of the oil, and solidified coconut oil quickly becomes liquid when the container is immersed in hot water or warmed in the hands.
  14. To Pattricia, About your question, I guess yes, and frankly speaking liquids are sometimes better because the body absorbs them quicker than the solid food which takes time to digest.
  15. This rice pudding recipe uses brown rice, which is much healthier than the white version. Whole grain brown rice contains all parts of the rice kernel, meaning that it retains all its original nutrients. This includes lignans (plant chemicals found especially in flaxseeds that have high estrogenic and antioxidant activity), and other important nutrients such as thiamine, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, iron, and five times the fiber of white rice. This recipe can be sweetened with honey and/or Stevia if you don't want to use sugar, or a combination of all three. Stevia is an all natural plant-derived sweetener that contains no calories. The coconut milk, shredded coconut and spices give it a warming quality, and the ginger is great for digestion. Ingredients * ½ cup brown rice * ½ cup shredded (desiccated) coconut * 1 can coconut milk * 2 cups milk * ½ cup water * ¼ cup honey / brown sugar (or to taste) * 1 tsp cinnamon * 1/2 tsp ginger * 1 tsp vanilla extract * ½ tsp Stevia (optional) * Pinch of sea salt Preparation * Soak the rice for at least 4 hours. * Wash the rice and put all the ingredients into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. * As soon as the liquid begins to boil, reduce the heat to low and stir until the liquid is gently simmering. * Cook for 40 minutes to 1 hour, stirring with a whisk every 10-15 minutes. After about an hour, most of the liquid will have been absorbed by the rice, and the rice should have a tender but chewy texture. * Serve the pudding hot with raisins or other dried fruit or chopped nuts. You can add the dried fruit in for the last 10 minutes of cooking time if you like them plump and juicy.
