Absolutely, and very well put. Withdrawing Strips is a short term saving but false economy. This is what I aim to put to the local CCG. Thanks for replying.

Ok,, I did not ask for opinions as to whether people should or should not be provided with anything. I asked if they are not. Obviously that was a mistake. Interest dropped.

Excellent Lingarth. Current trend across the UK is to not provide them to T2s. NICE guidelines say " Meters and strips should not be routinely provided to T2s" local CCGs are applying this as "routinely not provided" which I experienced myself in Sheffield. There are huge cuts to NHS budgets coming through.

Please see my 2nd post in the thread. I have not asked for advice or how to manage the condition. Nor do I want to draw lines between different Ts. Again, again, just experiences re equipment availability.

No offence to anyone, I did not intend this thread to be about how individuals do or don't manage their conditions, so, I won't go there. Please provide info re availability of strips and meters if your finding them becoming less freely available. Also, waiting lists for DESMOND courses etc. I will be pushing these issues in the local media, starting this week in The Telegraph.

Again, I am aware of the thread in the DUK forum, I'm part of it, also I am very aware of the NICE guidelines and CCG view ( I have an upcoming meeting with them). The point is surgeries all over the UK are denying strips etc to patients without consultation , there are pros and cons to that. Such as early spotting of other problems via self testing etc. I just want Ds to feedback their experiences. Thanks.

Yes I'm aware that these things have been freely available. However, across the UK Ds are having their scripts for testing strips withdrawn notably T2s, which I experienced in Sheffield when I requested a meter, I then bought my own and buy my strips. I'm keen to hear from others, T1s are not affected.

Just to get this tread moving again, I have persisted following the above advice, results being TERRIBLE. I am only being honest here, it is soul destroying. Many others I have spoken to on the bank have also reached the same conclusion. I dont pretend to know the problem but it is a large one. Regulars (which I now will not be) tell me that big stuff is caught through the night. My personal view, that fishery is on the slow decline.

ah, some facts and figures to use to verify things. Many thanks for providing those which are a great help. When SCC respond to my FoI request I can now make a comparison, it is possible that they have performed outstandingly, we shall see. I will also post some stuff myself at that time. None if which will explain the call center staff instruction. Bill Stewardson

Reasons are obvious, to establish validity etc.If no agency can measure snowfall how did SCC manage it, therefore enabling their people to make statements such as 8 to 15 inches fell ? Along with other claims such as Twice round the world etc ? Then ofcourse certain other claims like "more than any other LOCAL authority" and 60% of roads etc, and the puzzling fact about how many miles of roads they are actually responsible for. Ofcourse they may be correct about everything, if so fine. We shall see. The big thing to me is why their call centre staff were told via Email after Boxing Day NOT to take names/locations ? They seem to be unable to answer this. I will keep you updated.

Hello to all, yes I have seen the articles that have been pushed in the local media. I also saw the article in the local media before all this weather arrived stating how ready Sheffield was and how good the responses would be. People will decide for themselves if this has been the case, as will I. This "round the world" claim may well be accurate, if SCC knows that it has gritted this huge distance surely it can tell us how many miles of road this involved(obviously they are aware of this thread). I have made a detailed FOI request, so that these "grandiose claims" can be measured against previous years. If they add up , fair enough, also it is not at all difficult to look on the Net and find out how various weather agencies have listed the snow fall in Sheffield over Boxing Night, I have seen various claims from 4 inches to 15 inches. Obviously I will take into account the validity and relevance of those making the claims. I will keep posting as and when. Bill Stewardson

Hello, i,m trying to get a meeting with SCC to look at Gritting performance. I have seen claims of 8 to 15 inches of snow in Sheffy on Boxing Night(this is at odds with weather agencies) and that SCC grits the highest percentage of roads of ANY local Authority. SCC will not say how many miles of roads this actually is. Does anyone out there have any figures or info please ?
