  1. I have a vague idea who you are Blackspot.
  2. I still rave about Cabaret voltaire even now as the greatest Sheffield band never to hit the Top 40.
  3. The Dogs...great food, great atmosphere and the booze ain't too expensive either.
  4. The Tivoli Cabaret Voltaire Ben E King Millie Jackson Van Morrison I've always been a bit mixed up where music was concerned.
  5. I used to live practically in the shadow of the Abbeydale Picture Palace, I used to play about in the car park and up and down the concrete ramp around the back that was a fire escape. One afternoon whilst round the back of the cinema me and my mate Barclay heard cry and yells for help, a girl had got stuck in the ladies toilets and asked us to help get ther out...the dilemma however was that we shouldn't have been around the back of the cinema and debated whether or not to tell someone inside about the trapped girl for fear of getting into trouble (or getting done). We went inside and told someone about the girl and was given a packet of Spangles for our trouble. As for the Rex Cinema at Intake, I moved to Intake aged 11 and remember the final years of the Rex Cinema and a couple of days after the place had closed managed to sneak back inside through a fire door at the back to find the place empty but with the snackbar still stocked up, we daren't take anything but remember how eerie the place was.
  6. As for the face on the escalator, the top part of the face is one of the bars across the escalator casing with a screwed up chip wrapper to the right of it whilst the bottom part of the face is a fly poster stuck to the end curvature of the casing. The myth of the ghostly face is gone....and I have to much time on my hands
  7. That's right Bardwells was on the right as you wnet down Sellers Street from Aizlewood Road, I remember that other little gennel too. The builders yard on Hale Street were you could slip under the gate and play in the huge sand and gravel piles they had in there.
  8. The kids of today prefer stay and play with anything digital
  9. I lived on Aizlewood Road on the corner of Sellars Street. The gennel down to Broadfield Road around the back of the dairy ran from Abbeydale Road where the off licence used to be through to Hale Street and then down the slope to Broadfield Road, with advertising hoardings on the left hand side of the bottom section it was a great place for kids to play and build dens. The opposite side of the gennel went down over the wall and steep grassy bank into the back of the dairy which again was a great place to play as a kid and in places the depth of width of the wall was so thick that bricks could be taken out and you could build another den inside the wall. Is the river past the old baths and dairy still brick bottomed and stepped ? I remember that hot summer of 1976 paddling and splashing about riding my old Raleigh Budgie through the river and then going up onto Abbeydale Road to pop the tar bubbles. Good times.
  10. That goes for me too, 18 years i've been there now, it's a great place to work with nice and friendly people.
  11. I've noticed in recent weeks on my drive in to work that a fair bit of tree and bush clearing seems to be taking place around the old Victoria Station site, has anyone got any idea what's going on ?
