Stagecoach only withdrew from the East Midlands railway franchise because they failed to meet pension obligations... at the end of their franchise holding they handed the trains back to the leasing company and a majority of staff were taken on by Abellio East Midlands who are running the franchise now. No asset stripping took place as the assets weren't really theirs in the first place.

A flight took off from Stanstead this morning carrying nappies, baby food and bedding... clothing is not the issue, food and things we take for granted everyday. Toothpaste, sanitary products and baby products.

And from the drawings i've seen it won't ever reopen to traffic.

The negative to any redevelopment of the area is the access. The road leading in to the site has to pass under a narrow railway bridge.

And in 12 months time they will be closing the branch stating a drop in footfall.... which considering their hours have shortened is not a surprise. Getting clever with their excuses for closing branches now are the banks. It's clever what you can do with statistics.

It would have been noce to have been around when Sheffield Midland had the overall roof.

As long as the land mark building doesn't look as bland as all the new structures that have cropped up of late. The HSBC building makes me think of some European building from the 80's

But if Meadowhall was slap bang in the heart of the City, covering the area from the Pinstone Street frontage back up past John Lewis / Coles towards Charter Square and up Division Street, would people shop there that don't shop there now ?

I'm 100% with you Colin on this... people these days have no morals and can't stand being told what to do if it doesn't favour them.

Sheffield should have had an indoor shopping mall in the centre... look at Leeds, Manchester, Derby and even Huddersfield. They should have built from that and Meadowhall probably wouldn't have come along. Back to the 80's and the not so wild story of wanting to put a roof on the Moor... it could have worked, people would have come to shop undercover and in the warm. That is Sheffield City Centre's major flaw.

The problem with Sheffield's roads for cyclists v. motorists is the fact that they wind their way through valleys and up and down hills... not many straight lines as opposed to a lot of other cities. Narrower more winding roads is a problem for us all.

My mother used to drive for A1 taxis who had the contract to ferry the stars about from the hotels to the Fiesta. Many stories of Bob Monkhouse, Bruce Forsyth, Ken Goodwin and many others... all were really nice people.

An increase of £5 per fare in a black cab incoming according to the local news this morning. Dressed up as a fee to combat the cost of a black cab driving through the Clean Air Zone, even if your journey goes nowhere near the City Centre ?

The "Freddie J Allen" ?!?!?

Banks are becoming clever and are playing a game. They issue statistics that state a branch has been used less in the last 12 months than the previous 12 months. What they don't state in those statistics are that they have probably in the last 12 months not been open as many hours and have added a closed day in there as well. They did that with Barclays at Hillsborough... now gone and they appear to be doing something similar with their Arena Square branch. It's a clever way of closing branches citing lack of use.

It reminds me of a late 70's US sitcom 'WKRP In Cincinnati'
