  1. It's been a lot busier on that stretch of road this week, which has meant i've spent a little more time there and still noticed the total lack of cycle's using the defined lanes.
  2. And when they can no longer carry groceries on their bicycles and they revert to a motorised vehicle to get to the supermarkets which way do they travel..... oh yes down Holme Lane and through Hillsborough Corner which is congested at the best of times, so potential for another 300 plus motor vehicles added to that route. These are the problem area that the planners should be looking at and not adding to the problem by allowing housing schemes such as this to go ahead. Deluded planners, deluded council with their pie in the sky ideas.... how many back handers do they receive by the way ?
  3. Young lad wearing a grey hoodie waving a machete around in what looked like a group of kids fighting. Then reports that a 15 year old lad has been stabbed in the shoulder.
  4. They'll probably only move the barriers when they can get cycle lane cameras up..... .....and whoever posted those cycle lane photos up, don't give the council more ideas.
  5. Where does this state the closure of lanes on Shalesmoor.... and if this document is relating to Shalesmoor then they put the lanes in too early.... "This Order shall come into operation on the 16th day of July, 2020" Wrong order ?
  6. I sometimes think that comments such as 'Modern Transport Planners Tool Kits' are condescending in so much as they know what they are doing is right and we mere users know nothing and are wrong. Not only does the cycle lane not seem to work properly for either cycle users (no using it) or motor vehicle users but it looks an absolute mess, visually.... I wouldn't want to invest to either live or conduct a business in that area now.
  7. My argument is where was the TRO advertised 7 days prior to the measures being put in place. The local businesses and residents in this area knew nothing about, their were no street signs saying this was forthcoming, nothing in local papers or on the council's own website. Traffic Management Act 2004: network management in response to COVID-19 Updated 23 May 2020 "Temporary: these can be in place for up to 18 months. There is a 7-day notice period prior to making the TRO and a 14-day notification requirement after it is made, plus publicity requirements. These are most suitable for putting in place temporary measures and road closures." Is the lane closure legal ?
  8. And the last time I was in Amsterdam (or the rest of the Netherlands for that matter) it wasn't built on seven hills !
  9. A gentleman on a bicycle joined the A61 from the junction of Gibraltar Street this morning at around 7am. He rode along the pavement all the way to the Shalesmoor roundabout keeping the cycle lane to his right, weaving past lamp posts and people until he reached the crossing before the roundabout where he had an altercation with a man 'legally' walking along the pavement. After a few moments of them both shouting and gesticulating the man on the bicycle then went over the crossing to the opposite side of the road, rejoined the pavement and cycled along the pavement in the direction of Rutland Road. Cyclists are NOT using the cycle lane and he is not the first person i've seen in the last week or so doing this ! A total waste of time and not of any use to persons such as myself travelling from the South of Rotherham to the Hillsborough area as part of my daily commute. I cannot walk that distance and because of ill health certainly can't cycle that distance. Spot on Hayley1
  10. What is amusing to me that having spoken to a cyclist that uses this route, they now prefer to cut through Kelham Island that is now safe with it not being a rat run for cars avoiding Shalesmoor.... apparently it's also quicker. And yet cyclists still prefer to use the pavement around there because of the intermittent way the cycle lane is set out across road junctions and bus stops.
  11. Diary Of A Shalesmoor Traveller..... I notice access to Shepherd Street (side of H Harrold's) has been opened up, whether it was the council or local businesses that did it I don't know. Again this evening a police car with blues and twos tried to get through on the outward bound carriageway, but struggled as once again the traffic had nowhere to go. Two journey's along the road today and still no sign of any cyclists.
  12. I can't see my employer or many other employers putting in shower facilities so that people can cycle to work.
  13. We have nowhere to reroute as all the other roads around that area have now been blocked off ! Are the government going to give me a deal to buy an e-bike then to use this cycle way.... what a waste of government money.
  14. I am aware of at least two ambulances being stuck in this area today alone, one has been filmed with the paramedic and a bystander physically having to move the barriers so the ambulance could get down the cycle lane, with the paramedic then running in front of the ambulance to move the cones further up the road. Badly, instigated and planned. And no i'm not anti-cyclist and no I am not able to cycle or walk to work . It is 14 miles from door to door for me, a journey on three buses (if they aren't full) and an added hour (each way) to my journey, time which neither I nor my family can afford to lose. Quote from The Star - 23rd April 2019 Coun Jack Scott, cabinet for transport and development, denied the report was lacking in detail and said: “This scheme will at worst maintain air quality in that area and at best improve air quality in that area. “I’m quite clear that I need to take action, which will sometimes be controversial, to improve air quality but this is not an air quality scheme. “I’ve heard people say it is not sustainable – which is understandable but I’ve not heard anyone say it will be bad for pedestrians or cyclists. “The stark challenges we face in our city cannot be avoided…but a scheme that improves bus times and makes it safer for pedestrians is absolutely what we should be doing.”
  15. If this is a temporary restriction then what is the cost of the work involved, signage, line painting cones/bollards etc ? Surely in these times of austerity this is an expense an already stretched council can not afford. Add to this the delays to emergency vehicles as I witnessed today with an ambulance taking nearly over five minutes to clear the section between The Shakespeare public house and the Netherthorpe Road roundabout basically because the vehicles stuck in this single lane nightmare had nowhere to move over.
  16. The problem is SIV did away with using a promoter such as Live Nation, stating if I recall that they shouldn't have to pay someone to bring in the acts when they could do it themselves. The other questions are, how long for the mothballing, will it reopen and what happens to the Sheffield Steelers ?
  17. Is it really only temporary ? It seems such a waste of money, with manpower, painting the roads, signage etc and then to change it back.
  18. Absolutely.... I can't see anything in the original plans for the work done that either shows or states what they were going to do.... one can only hope it is temporary during the summer months or until more people get back to work.
  19. And what options then do the motorists have who cannot either ride a bicycle or use public transport ?
  20. Look at it this way, the City Hall is worth keeping alive for the history and diversity in acts that they pull in there.... the Arena is now outdated and if it was in the USA would probably have been replaced. They've thrown millions at the Arena and the class of acts has gone down hill..... the food which was supposed to be improved hasn't changed and is overpriced rubbish and as for the seating since the renovation you don't have room to move since they shoved extra seats on the rows by narrowing them. Knock it down and cut their losses.
  21. Unbelievable that the cycle lanes are wider than the carriageway for motor vehicles. Well done Sheffield City Council for yet another hair brained road traffic scheme on what is already one of the busiest stretches of road around the centre of Sheffield. Heaven forbid someone breaks down or has a bump when their is nowhere to pull over. How many millions of pounds has the extra lanes and widening cost all for the council to put in cycle lanes... it's rarely I see anybody cycling on there , they all seem to nip through Kelham Island. What next are they going to extend it along the length of Penistone Road or knowing the council up the Parkway !
  22. I've seen those pictures but we have even been through the books in the Central Library to find the actually number or court on Woodland Street the business was started.... no one seems to know.... great pics though.
  23. I wonder if anyone can shed any light on what number on Woodland Street, Swann-Morton as was to become first began manufacturing blades. Also as an aside, Swann-Morton's new premises on Penistone Road has been named Woodland Works as a historic reminder to their heritage and beginnings on Woodland Street.
