  1. the only way to remove it or prevent it is to stop the sunlight hitting the water. the uv rays encourage growth. i hade the same problem a few years ago & i combination of the following helped. increase plant life , lillies etc when they grow, ought to cover 50% of the pond surface . barley straw is ineffective for all but alittle of the stuff, pop in a couple of new fish, i think it is orfe that eat the stuff faster than gold fish - but not fast enough to clear your pond up (think of the belly) in march /april pop a few drops of anti algae stuff from the pet shop - this dies the water blue & prevents the uv rays getting to work. hope it works for you - however you could be fighting a loosing battle this year as the sun has already started work on pond water.
  2. if you send your friend copies of the free press in sheffield you will be come to dog owner beating week fairly soon. soon as the sun shines everyone gets on their moral high horse about dog excrement & all the papers start with letters & crap. everyone should clean up after them ( i do & i have 5 dogs).it is an offence to leave it behind, it's not an offence for your dog to do it. & if the dog is looked after there is usually no helath & safety issue regarding dog excrement, the only accident likely is slipping in it on your way home from the pub.but lets not start on the drunks & anti social element today.
  3. if its for u on the m1 & style buy an Alfa - various style options & s**t hot. had a 146ti & only ever got overtook by an impreza.
  4. this is a similar problem for contract cleaners & security guards, unfortunately i think that as an employee on a particular job contract you become part of the contract. it is apparently to protect the employee when there is a takeover of contracts. sorry but that probably doesn't help you at all.
  5. yep it is another ignored fact that bells are required. and i do cycle so have no gripes as a cyclist just planks who think they should be able to put every one else out all the time.
  6. it is against ebay rules to sell fake stuff.leave feedback but report him/her to ebay they won't know it was you honest.
  7. it may not bother some people however cycling on the FOOT path is a criminal offence just like theft.so shall we ignore the laws that suit us but only enforce the important ones like burglary. the laws were made for a reason & that is to protect the public. (by the way playing soccer in the street is against the law as well, it's a good job Pele wasn't from England)
  8. if you have a dispute with a seller ebay's policy means you have to wait before you can usually take any action thru them. they will recommend you make contact directly, thay should also give you the address & telephone number of the seller if they are genuine. it may also be beneficial to release some tension & check the sellers other items,if they are selling the same thing again with the same piccie report them as fraudulent or copied goods to ebay , they usually shut the sale & suspend the account if justified. complain to ebay first they offer all the "insurances" not paypal, paypal don't care as they are just a cash routing network.
  9. if u have children under 16 you cannot sell the house anyway. You must keep it until they are 16 (and pay for it) however it is usually valued when u divorce & your spouse would get half of the preceding price when you eventually sell up. be prepared for solicitors costs,& loosing half of everything usually including future pension rights(if she knows about them) but this can be negotiable. you should try to resolve it (as i have fortunately justdone) however be prepared to bite the bullet, the hard shock when you commence proceedings may wake her up. all the best.
  10. only discovered no1 this week. went thurs lunch first time & was pleasantly srprised at the slection & quality.(can only compare with Amraj indian @ peaks which is crap by the way) then went on sunday b4 going to sharks match & alrhough it was busier nothing much else was different. although they had mini sausagea & sausage rolls & curly fries on sunday, and they had removed the deep fried chicken balls & deep fried mushrooms & onion rings from the thursday menu. excllent value mage 2 plates on thursday, 3 on sunday followed by ice cream.
  11. begin by deciding what you want to achieve. if you want a dining kitchen you will have to get the dimensions right to accomodate (he says in a patronisng tone).but seriously the more you know yourself the easier the process. the builder may have to change things 'cos of drains access etc but you still need to end up with the picture in your head. draw it out on paper to scale if you can with the house & garden shown, this will show how much room it will take up & how much benefit you will get. then measure it talk about it & draw it again.i have converted & extended & coverted a 32ft garage into a sitting room, office &utility, built a conservatory from ground up all in a similar manner.if you need a good builder i use a guy from doncaster who i could recommend. he built me a dwarf wall from my sketch measurements& when the doors arrived they fitted in like a hand in a glove.
  12. velux windows do not need planning permission re: our house. basically because they are installed to lie flat with the roof and are therefore not visible in most cases.as long as they dont project from the rof you are ok.the rear of the property in this case has less restrictions than the front i.e nobody can do anything about the rear.
  13. i used one fron the a dmag he advertises every week.cost us about £149 fitted.very good company can't remember his name (it was 3 years ago) but is ad is still in ad mag every week.
  14. the ikea initially was for the YEB buidings on the Parkway but Sheffield Council refused due to poor infrastructure, traffic etc.
  15. try bbc website called "greedy cow" or google for it. recommends loads of south yorkshire places to eat
  16. right side depends which way u view the house, we are responsible for the left side as we look toward the front of the house from the street. 2m fence is only for rear gardens, front fences have to be lower than that 4ft i think. the fence & posts have to be installed on your land fully & not straddling the boundary between the properties. good or bad side out that is your prerogative 'cos you paid for it, if you go dutch with the neighbours god help you decide that one. your neighbours are not allowed to paint the fence (or wax the floor lol) or fasten anything to it without your permission. a psycho lives next door to me so i like to be sure of some things before i upset the status quo by erecting 6 foot fencing.if u don't get on with your neighbour remember to treat the fence on their side first.it's a pain in the ass getting permission to gain access to maintain your own property even though you legally have the right to do so.
  17. got a few comments from traders on my recent visit.there is a temporary market opposite wilko's (where the shops used to be), this should be until Aug when the markethall will have been upgraded to a "mall" style market.the stalls will then return to the old market site again. the shops opposite wilkinsons will then reopen as individual shops in their own right, hopefully increasing the number of ladies clothes shops even further(or not please!). sainsburys will replace the whole cinema & food court area completely with its new store & coffee shop, there is talk about parking over sainsburys but no-one is clear on that yet. extended parking has been provided next to TK Max - well it's always been there but it looked a state, at the moment parking is at a premium. the old sainsburys and the front of the building is being extended to create more space for additional "larger" chains to tout their wares . they appear to have acepted the short term loss in trade for an increase after 2 years following the development. i think it will be an improvement with more to offer , but i hope they divert all the traffice away from my house. thsi will get even worse when the new school is built oin the land opposite CP.
  18. sheffield is yet again in a period of restructure 'cos the poloticians can't decide whether to allow traffic or not into the city.the biggest reason for me not visiting the city is convenience, buses are crap & the tram is not close enough to bother & the parking is either non existent or expensive.compare that with holiday destinations and yes Sheffield does suck big time. however as a mulitcultural conurbation it far outweighs most "foreign" competitors. If you relied on tourism for a living would you be open all day & night with patio heaters etc of course you would. i recently went to bergen with a population the size of most small cities in the uk.nice patio heaters, nice cafes - all the shops shut at 5.30 (strange when the ferry docks @ 6pm). visited Heraklion last year looks like Beirut. visited amsterdam 2003 - the route in to the city looks like the rear of the Castle Markets in Sheffield , so why so mush criticism of Sheffield.
  19. re the 0870 numbers, yes some are a con but usually these are 0870 1 something or other. I have on 0870 number that is placed on all my marketing. As i advertise out of my local area some people prefer not to ring into neighbouring counties offering work. My 0870 number costs excatly the same for callers as my 0114 number does. The biggest benefit to me is that if i ever change my phone number the 0870 number transfers all the calls to my landline. Not everyone should be tarred with the same brush.
  20. b4 everyone starts up yes i konw they do. i need a sheffield hotel close to the wicker that has a reception area for a brief meeting. often use the marriotts & travel inns elsewhere but don't know which is situated in that area of town.
  21. re: garden manure. no one should burn manure if they are genuine horse owners or farmers, it is illegal & anyone round n e derbyshire should be aware of this 'cos we get reported to the police often enough.you can only burn hay & straw as long as it is not contaminated with horse urine (the burning of ammonia can be a health hazard). however all the land owners will burn off the fields including damp grass, hay, straw & rubbish. i'm off to burn my old fencing this p.m so best bring your washing in mate.
  22. if u register with the following company they will give you a free 0870 number (which does not charge you or your callers)this can then be allocated to any landline number you have. it wont get you a bt short term deal but could benefit you in having your calls rerouted to wherever you are without having to keep issuing different phone numbers. http://www.free-0870-numbers.co.uk
  23. just for a change to fluff's thread - best place to meet single women.not looking for anything serious, but they all seem to want 6ft bronzed Adonis or Enrique lookalikes. being housetrained, well groomed, cook, irons & cleans & even like to shop but can't even seem to get into the loop.
