  5. As a volunteer at Manor Lodge, I can assure you that over 30 years of digs no tunnels have ever been found. Any tunnel and that would include mine seams would be deemed dangerous and therefore blocked up. The pressure of the earth above a tunnel is enormous and at some point if not regularly maintained would fall in at some point or points.
  6. The cost for parties is £3.50 each in the daytime and £4.50 each at night or at weekends. book on 0114 2762828 For individuals you can get a tour of the site for just £1.50 on fridays when the site is open to the public. On event days which are usually once a month the admission price is £3 and 50p for children The site has just finished its £1.25 million heritage lottery funding with a new visitor centre and a completely refurbished Turret House. It now represents a a major piece of both English and European history in so much as it is the only surviving Royal Prison of Mary,Queen of Scots Well worth a visit to see the transformation that has taken place there
  7. To Ouchcat, No.56 leaves from pond street interchange and you can also catch it at corner of Ladies Bridge facing the Market

  9. To Monkey Lover-you must not have had one of their leaflets. It says 10.00am to 3pm unless booked for private events and activities. Please phone to check before your visit to save disappointment. I believe that info is on the website as well.Phone no. is 0114 276 2828. The site is open every sunday until end of Sept 11.00 am to 4 pm which includes the newly refurbished Turret House. This has to be seen as it is now back to its Tudor roots with wall hangings, hand carved furniture etc. A very special place. Buses on a sunday would be the no.56.every 30 mins on a sunday. Alight at Windsor Pub , Southend Road and walk up to top of this road. Discovery centre is about 200 yards on the left hand side
  10. Whatever the cost Sheffield needs to dig this site. It was the fourth largest castle in England, 4 acres in size and bigger than Warwick. Sheffield has a wonderful Tudor history with its mighty castle, Sheffield Manor Lodge and the Great Sheffield Deer park. Visit Weston Park and you would think what Tudor history as no display exists. Back to the Caste, Sheffield needs a central focal point of history-it had it with the Castle , lost it and now needs to restore Castle Park with a visitor centre attached to it. I understand 75-80% remains underground.
  11. Sheffield Manor Lodge must now rank as one of the most important visitor sites in Sheffield. It just needs to be seen so please everyone spread the word. This is our heritage and without support it will not succeed.
