  1. I once told my grandson w e used to do that and I got a - you are crazy - look and a derogatory 'what did you do that for?' I weakly replied 'well it was something to do, not many cars were around and some number plates were funny, like one that went past regularly that spelled BRA. He was not impressed.
  2. 1950s we collected all sorts didn't we? Postage stamps, film star photos in bubble gum packets. I had a scrapbook too that I pasted photos in from interest using flour and water paste. Autograph books with silly things in. Marbles.
  3. I would definitely want to know where I came from. Having had a childhood with natural parents who at times made me feel unwanted/unloved, researching my family history made me feel as if I really did belong somewhere.
  4. Fire engines busy in the area - is there a fire in the woods?
  5. It was pride in having a nice clean doorstep and windowsills with nice clean nets to the windows. The house may have been poor inside but cleanliness cost very little. They also used to sweep the pavements and swill them down. Same as today - some keep their fronts nice and tidy and clean their front doors and windowsills even if they are PVC - others do not.
  6. I know basically it is the tenant who is responsible but this property has had an number of tenants in recent years who all dumped their mess in the very large garden. I guess it must be being cleared because of all the waste some of it glass. Thanks for your input.
  7. If a Council House garden is a real mess and a new tenant is moving in do the Council clear the garden for them?
  8. https://emmaus.org.uk/sheffield/ is a good one - they helped when I needed a house clearance doing.
  9. https://picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?searchterms=osgathorpe&action=search&keywords=all%3BCONTAINS%3B%osgathorpe%%3B for photos of some old places in Osgathorpe area.
  10. Sometimes a hot pack works or a cold pack. Ibuprofen is good for muscular pain but beware if you have stomach problems - otherwise Voltarol 12 hour gel which is quite expensive.
  11. https://www.seasonalgardening.co.uk/propagating_hydrangea_cuttings.html many shrubs are best used for cuttings in midsummer - autumn.
  12. Did our own - if everything is straightforward it is easy. Also added in back up attorneys who can step forward if the first lot cannot undertake it for some reason - just in case.
  13. In for the long haul I guess - I received an email saying the same thing. Repeats on TV possible too.

  16. I went form Shiregreen Junior school to CGS in town and i know my school friends went to Hinde house as it was a new built school either for that year or the year before.
  17. Good - I always say people grumble about teh police but if they don't know what is going on then they can't help with things😊
  18. My 2 x great grandparents had the surnames Damms and they came from Holmesfield way - both are buried at St James Norton.
  19. Sheffield Lane top - a pair are regulars in this area. Said to be about a dozen in Longley park
  20. If it is the same mesh they have used for women in gynae ops then yes there can be problems unless they are using 'new improved' mesh but I have not heard that they are. Someone I know had this used in a bladder prolapse op which failed after 2 yrs. My son had a double hernia repair (groin and higher up) and that has caused him some problems with pain and lumpiness. Ask the question, would be my advice.
  21. Anyone who is carer should register with https://sheffieldcarers.org.uk/ as they are a mine of information and help. They are nothing to do with the Council, social workers or the government. I registered with them years ago when I had caring responsibilities - I still do have them - and they really can offer good advice. I would also think about Power of Attorney if you have not already dealt with this so long as your mother in law is capable of making her own decisions. Anyone approaching a certain age should make one. If it is straightforward you do not need a solicitor unless it is complicated. https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney I made my own which is not in practice yet but anytime I feel it needs to be I can had over responsibility for my financial affairs and Health and Care to my appointed attorneys.
  22. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Albert_Hospital tells something about the hospital. https://vimeo.com/79403717 tells of Whittington hall
