  3. Hi everyone, Is anyone looking for a low cost retail opportunity in a student area but with lower rates? The Netto on south rd at walkley is now the new Asda supermarket. On the same parade, glenmill carpets and part of the premier supermarket are available. Both have about 600 sq ft. There appears to be a lack of florists, greengrocers, hardware shops, clothing, footwear and of course the much missed post office. Rents on south rd are around £200pw and 30,000 students are within 2 miles. Crookes is the nearest shopping area and buses 52, 95, 31 and s6 serve. Asda have just invested a huge sum, would anyone like to ride on the back of their extra footfall?
  4. National travel east used to take the family to Skipsea! It was more of an adventure than the week long stay at spurn point caravan site!! Yorkshire traction (sadly missed) also took us regularly to Calais - although it was always at least a whole day getting there. Ellenders are really good. I used to have some great summer day trips with them.
  5. Just trying to remember what the furniture shop was called on Attercliffe Rd in the 1970s. It wasn't Shentons, Hitchins, Roomstyle or Banners, it was further down where the United carpets are. There was a weekly pay option and a little pay window where the owner would give any kids an opal fruit when they visited!! Strange how Attercliffe has changed. Talk of the town bingo, ronnies barbers, landers cafe etc! All fond memories.
  6. Walkley is full of opportunity. We need traditional services similar to crookes. Eat natural, Admiral chippy, maybe a fishmonger and bakers like greggs. Theres the new laundry and dry cleaners down the road, of course ital express is doing well and fingers crossed that Asda bring in lots of business and footfall. Anyone have any good ideas on who could locate on south rd?

  17. Hi, remember when you do find a good site and the caravan you want, check it's sub frame underneath, quality of the interior, all electrics, appliances and gas. Repairs can be expensive so get any warranty you can and always insure it for the full replacement price plus any damage it could have on the site. Finally, check it's length of term on the site, is it nearing aeging out of the site and may have to be moved? Best of luck.

  20. Whilst we wish Voice every success, I have personally met them and I'm not impressed. I am a senior manager with 21 years in call centres and received lip service at interview stage. Don't however feel that I'm against Voice, ANT and Insight are all very similar. The best in Sheffield are Freemans and HSBC. Both have excellent training, are in house - not an outsourcer and offer good facilities and benefits. If you want to check the standard of a call centre, ask one question upfront - what is your staff turnover percentage. Anything over 20% per annum should be viewed with suspicion.
  21. What type of business? I'm setting one up myself
  22. Oh no, this is bringing back awful, truly awful haunting memories. I was at parkhouse until 1989 and hated every minute of it, i really only got on with teachers like audrey glover - cookery (Still have a couple of those old books somewhere). I lived for her classes, couldn't calculate a fraction in maths but time planned a 3 course meal to perfection! I met up with Miss Windle (art and needlework) many years later at the theatre (her nickname in my year was Mrs 60s as she always looked a bit flower power era), and bumped into Mrs Smith in a supermarket a few weeks ago. Why did Mrs Smith always wear those see through skirts standing up in assembly with the morning sunhine behind her??? lol. We never found out what happened to Mr Marnham after his bad fall, and also Eric Godley after his semi-retirement to a private school near Doncaster. Even though this was long after the uniform and caning had been dropped, Mr Godley threw a mean board rubber with deadly accuracy! Was amazed that Mr Turner (PE) had passed away, he was only in his late 20s when I left. Heather Parry moved from High Green back to the North East, she had a fab old mini with a duff exhaust! As for Gary Turner, he once told the whole school bus full of kids that sitting next to me on the bus must not give the impression that we were friends! As you can imagine, I was not impressed, or a fan of his. There were some funny moments, Miss Featherstone suggested I joined the trampolining team, the results were hilarious, Mr Blades tried to teach me table tennis but the table kept collapsing in a heap on the floor, and I got caught with in a very boring biology lesson listening to a pocket radio moments before someone set fire to those black curtains under the gas burners! This was the same day one of the chemistry teachers mixed some very nasty chemicals in that little office between the classes and the whole school had to be evacuated. I do remembered that sculpture made out of VW beetle bumpers, it didn't take long to start rusting! Oh, and taking my 50p a week to the library office for the school TSB savings account! I had mixed feelings driving past recently to a meeting and saw the place in a state of complete disrepair. The council tried to sell the place but was blocked for change of use due to the pollution from the M1. I remember the leylandi hedging was grown along the boundary to shield us from the motorway. It would have made a great centre for small business launches. Especially with the catering rooms, industrial units and decent sized classrooms. It's been 20 years since I've heard these names, can't look back favourably sadly, the place never prepared me for the world of work, that was a real learning curve. Ah well, at least the school dinners there were well cooked on site!
