  1. Thank you so much for the responses - especially the cement issue. It's a cash buy for us but would certainly matter in the future if we wished to sell. Also toTopflat: weve been trawling for some time but latest ones are either 2 beds or a short lease or ground floor. We're after a one bed long lease upper. Again, many thanks to you.
  2. Hi, I have read a lengthy historic thread on the above block of flats at Hillsborough and have known the place well over the years. However, I have no up to date knowledge and am presently interested in buying a one bed or studio flat in the area. I know the flats have suffered at times from landlord/management issues but the placement for our needs is perfect. Does anyone on the forum know the managing company+address? I'm also seeking an idea of the yearly service charge (not sure if this differs for 1 or 2 beds). I believe there may be a resident's association at the flats and any information on the above or what it's like to live there currently would be much appreciated. Many thanks!
  3. I have got 2 sets for free - they are plastic and are the right height for climbing up onto a chair/sofa/bed. They are beige and brown so don't look tacky in a living room. I had them for my 3 legged cat who prior to purchasing these, used to pull himself up clawing the chairs. Lost him recently to old age. Also have nice blue/beige fluffy cat bed. Laundered and sanitized.
  4. Took Dad today, he was beginning to look like Cousin It out of the Addams Family! - Had to revisit the original post just to say he looks amazing. What a really smart haircut! He used to go into various barbers around Hillsborough and maybe because he's in his 80's it was always bog standard old guy haircut. It's knocked a few years off and he looks well cool. All for £8.
  5. Hi. does anyone have a phone number for the hairdressers (near Oceana fish bar). I think it used to be a barber's. Found a new name which is 'Hair Wise' but no number listed anywhere. Many thanks, stay safe everyone.
  6. Brilliant - thank you for that. - Off to come up with some kind of plan.....
  7. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply but link unfortunately not worked. Will try another forum. Problem is each forum mod moves my query into general covid site/thread and it gets missed.
  8. Firstly can I apologise for putting this in general discussions but I cannot find the info I need on other threads. Could anyone who has been to the Arena vaccination centre lately advise whether it's a true drive through i.e. stay in car throughout the procedure and any waiting time, or do we need to walk at some point? - even a few steps. I am a carer for 2 family members who are unsteady walking or standing any length of time without support. Unfortunately I am no longer able to lift or push a wheelchair as I (unwisely) put off a hip replacement prior to the Covid crisis. We cannot use volunteer services as the above persons have anxiety issues with new carers and apparently none of us fit into the 'housebound' profile, which in a pure sense is fair. Many thanks for your help & stay safe everyone,
  9. Cheers! and thank you for your reply. Much Appreciated.
  10. Hi, hope everyone is keeping well. Just been past Tesco Express in the car and it looks closed - its the one our shopper uses so need to let her know. Also wondered if it's temporary/reason? Thank you!
  11. Hi, Absolutely brilliant place to be. Something for everyone. Wonderful scenery/walks/good bus service/decent school/doctors/pubs and garden centers with cafes. People pass the time of day and are interested in newbies. We moved my elderly Dad onto Loxley Road six years ago from Essex and were worried about uprooting him. Now he tells me the neighborhood news! Can't wait for things to get back to normal. Stay safe everyone.
  12. - Noticed what looked like a small secondhand clothes shop on the opposite corner to Tesco Express, next to the chippy. Does anyone know whether this is a charity shop, or new business? I only get out by car and it would be very near to take a few bits to. We donate via the collection bags already but would like to help locally if they'd like some of the newer items. Many thanks!
  13. Ferretman is replying to my post about Chinese 2 Night on Wisewood Road - post moved, so title lost in transit. - He's absolutely right in his observation, thats why we stopped using it too. So pleased we had a flip and tried it once more, as its back to original standard and better. - Hope they keep it up as its so handy for us.
  14. Wow! - We haven't ordered here for a few months. Had 3 meals last week and the same tonight, so order was varied. Absolutely brilliant! Food very quick, HUGE amount and flavours lovely. Whatever they are doing (and who is cooking it) they're spot on for us. Someone else is going to have to wash up, because I can't move. Lol.
  15. Thank you so much again for all the help you have given - I've got it now! The bit about the ramraid really made us laugh though, on an otherwise sad and awful day. H.
  16. Thank you so much for the advice Tesco is my safest place mobility-wise. Never been advised of a card limit - just wasn't sure if the machine has a top payout. I need £700 so fingers X'ed. - H
  17. Hi Folks, Just a quick question - does anyone know the cash withdrawal limit at Tesco Infirmary Rd? I've just had a panic call for cash from one of the kids. I don't walk well and although I can normally get parked up near enough to my bank, I'm worried as it's busy with Xmas. We went to Hillsborough the other day and I really struggled to get 50 yards from the nearest carpark. Thanks, H
  18. They do pretty much anything you ask for. I am a bored vegetarian and they put up with my weird concoctions!
  19. We used to use Taj quite a lot until the building works some months ago (one year they did our xmas dinner) but just got out of the habit somehow. However, after tonight's supper I wonder why we have been away so long. It was brilliant, lovely food/hot/fast and polite. Whatever they are paying that chef it ain't enough!!!!
  20. Thank you for the link, will do.
  21. Wow! - That's loads more than I knew about it. At the moment I'm experimenting mixing both brews together (taking care not to contaminate one with the other) and then flavouring with sieved fresh ginger. I will have a go at the non preserved apricot though, as I don't like the flavour using a sultana or two and lemon slice, it's too sharp. Also will add powdered ginger to last bottling to try, as fresh ginger even when peeled is a bit 'earthy'. Thanks again and have a nice weekend.
  22. Hi - Thank you for the tip about the testing strips, I'm going to try it. Though I'm not sure about comparison to other preparations as I have only just started with this stuff. Which leads me to the present slight problem - has anyone seen Mickey Mouse in the Sorcerer's Apprentice? Far from being difficult to grow more grains, it's creeping up the pop bottle like a martian invader. Not so the ginger beer plant though (proper one) - that's proving to be a very much slower grower. Anyone know if this is normal?
  23. Has anyone else got kefir on the go? I sent for the grains after reading that it might help with long term joint pain/weight gain and insomnia. There's loads on the net about it's properties (curing all ills from warts to bad boyfriends!) You 'grow' it like the old Palestine yeast ginger beer plant and the water one is not as temperamental to ferment as it's milk version. Anyway, from a nursing background I was as usual of the 'this won't work' school of thought. However, after paying 15 quid I gave it my best shot. NOTHING. - Then it went mad. It's proving quite easy, just needing bottled water/sugar/unpreserved lemon slice/unpreserved 2 sultanas and a plastic pop bottle. It did take me a week to screw up enough courage to drink this mess and it tasted a bit like watered down bitter - yuk I thought!. However, second brew I only put in 2 sultanas rather than a dozen and the resulting stuff is clear and palatable. Very nice with a dash of ribena. Then I drank it one night. - And didn't surface until 10am the next morning. Yippee! real sleep. Plus a lessening in the urge to combat pain and tiredness by eating, with a lifting of consequent low mood. Now I really didn't expect this to do anything at all, so I left some days between and gave it another shot (1 glass in early evening) and it worked again. (The lemon in it makes it too acid to have at bedtime). Another bonus is that the darned stuff multiplies and you can share the grains. Obviously not every remedy works for all people but I have had to eat my words of doubt on this one. Keep well, - Helena.
  24. Thanks folks! not seen him since yesterday due to the winds I think. If anybody sees him around this area, you can't miss him due to the collar - he looks like he borrowed Worzel Gummidge's (scarecrow for the younger viewers) necklace. He was too quick for a pic last time.
  25. Will have to have a go when the wind dies down. To get a better look at his collar even, as it could have a tag. He's too skittish in all this mad weather. Going to dangle a sardine or two. I do suspect he's a local but just want to be certain. Thank you so much for your reply.
