  1. Its on the opposite side to the garage side, just before the the top of the hill heading towards Sheffield, it's just off from the curb but as its a fast road it's literally ripping tyres apart - lots of cars pulled over for about 500m once they realise they have a flat tyre.
  2. FYI Passed this 3 times yesterday, a MASSIVE hole in the road on the A61 on High Green side - its taking car tyres out every hour. From my drive pasts over a 3 hour period it must have taken dozens of cars out, recovery vehicles are back and forth constantly. This was the case last night, not sure how you report emergency pot holes? ta Jez PS when I say 'massive' I mean it almost killed my Ford Ranger too
  3. not sure - maybe too much? I used to add a teaspoon of honey to a cup of tea as if it was granulated sugar - in reality it should have been a tiny tiny amount to sweeten things
  4. As above, Manuka has good PR and is an industry - a massive one, dont think for a moment its some small cottage thing doing just a few jars - its millions of jars. In terms of the list, I would break it down: Location based Tasmanian Honey Greek Honey Australian Honey English Honey Plant Source based Lemon Honey Eucalyptus Honey Manuka Honey Acacia Honey Location/Plant Source based Spanish Lavender Honey New Zealand Thyme Honey Romanian Lime Honey Scottish Heather Honey Canadian Clover Honey Generic Honey Terms Woodland Honey Organic Honey Set Honey Meadow Flower Honey Clear Honey Natural Blossom Honey Mild & Light Honey Runny Honey Most supermarket (and imported) honey is pasturised first and then pressure filtered to maintain a runny honey shelf life rather than it crystalising - if it costs 89p its rubbish. A shame really as crysralisation is seen as a sign of quailty in that pollen particles act as a seed to start the crystals off - pollen in honey being one of the benefits that people seek out. The trick with honey (IMHO) is to use small amounts I think. ta Jez
  5. Hi Mark, how are you? Never forgotten your support re the stingy things! Good to see your still around. Jez
  6. Hi there, is essence the variety of types/flavours are down to the nectar source, that being the plants that the honey bees have been working - location and time of year being key. So many flowering plants and trees in the world you can then start to see how its possible to produce so many flavors, either poly-floral (many flower types) or mono-floral (single flower type). Anyone who makes health claims should be careful, in fact UK beekeepers are under direction to never make such claims for very good legal reasons, claiming medical benefits suggests you have clear evidence - they don't and you would come under local authority scrutiny if you made a claim. Having said that I have ppl who swear by the benefits of taking small amounts of local honey daily, honey and lemon for colds and sore throats etc. Good local honey is best in my view, why ship a mass produced honey for 15,000 miles. Happy to explore the list if you need? Jez
  7. I think they will probably be bumble bees, are there 10,000's or a few dozen? ta Jez ps call me if you like 07980 261554

  12. it was a massive green ball at around 5:10pm today, and when I say massive I mean so big it looked like a roman candle floating down towards Liverpool (no bad thing lol)
  13. Did anyone else see a massive green shooting star about 40 mins ago? or was it a firework.... maybe I am going mad!! Was looking Manchester way from Sheffield... Jez
  14. Hi there, Just a heads up on this event for this Saturday (and others), if you are interested in beekeeping then this is the one for you - find out if working with bees is for you, hand on! http://www.buzzy-work.co.uk/sheffield_beekeeping_course.html (surprise guests this Saturday so dont hang around in booking!) Urban Beekeeping Experience (2hrs session) Weston Park Museum/Sheffield £30.00 per person You will get a practical introduction into the world of bees and beekeeping and look at the various tasks a beginner beekeeper needs to master. You will get to see a Beehaus as well as other hives and get to know if beekeeping is really for you. While the event is aimed at newcomers, it will be tailored to the audience on the day. You will learn some of basic beekeeping skills including: •Examine hive parts and its structure (inc. the BeeHaus). •Using a bee suit, a smoker, and the hive tool. •Open a hive and remove frames for inspection. •Identify castes of the honeybee (queen, worker and drones) •How to find the queen and recognise brood and honey •Why disease management is so important. Veils (bee suits) will be provided but please bring a pair of rubber gloves (kitchen type) and wellington boots as we plan to examine at least two hives during the session. Course attendees should also bring a notebook and pen for note taking. The main session is very much weather dependent as we do plan to spend 50% of the time on the hives (bees don't like rain either), please bring waterproofs if it is raining as we will still visit the apiary area. 07/08/10 10:00 - 12:00 - 5 spaces 21/08/10 10:00 - 12:00 - 3 spaces 28/08/10 10:00 - 12:00 - 2 spaces 04/09/10 10:00 - 12:00 - NEW DATE 11/09/10 10:00 - 12:00 - NEW DATE 19/09/10 11:00 - 13:00 - NEW DATE Message me directly, or email [email protected] Cheers Jez
