  1. Hi! I haven't received any emails so I'm just going to send you my email address again in case I typed it wrong last time.
  2. Hi Laura2101, I have pm'd you about this but it's not showing in my sent box - can you just let me know if you get it!
  3. Hi yyan, I've had experience of sending my child to abbeydale primary. He started there aged 4 but is now at Portercroft school (aged6). Happy to chat to you about it... Just let me know.
  4. Hi Chrispin2, I'm not sure if my pm reached you or not - it doesn't seem to be in my sent folder. So, in case it hasn't, the contact email for Hagglers Corner is [email protected]. They're looking forward to hearing from you. All the best.
  5. Have you tried posting on Sheffield freegle for some?
  6. As far as I'm aware, coconut oil is the best for cooking with because it is very heat stable. Also works well as a moisturiser!
  7. If you grind up cashew nuts with some engevita, dulse, salt and pepper it makes a very good parmesan replacement 'sprinkle' to go on pasta! Even my kids love it!
  8. Hi again Chrispin2, Just realised your connection to Beanies! Are you the owner? Yep, totally agree with you on the food prices front. Many people expect to be able to pay near to nothing for food that takes seconds to make these days unfortuantely. No energy in=no energy out though... When I say that I'll be selling things as cheaply as possible, the promise I can make is that I wont be making any unnecessary mark-ups. Thanks again for your comments, and the offer of help. I will definitely take you up on it! I'm still at the brainstorming stage right now, and very excited about the possibilities. I'd certainly like to ask you about set up costs, suppliers and info like that so I'll get my questions together and PM you. Oh, and I've emailed Hagglers Corner to ask if I can pass on their details to you which I'll do as soon as they reply.
  9. Thanks very much for your replies everyone. Tasai - Vegetarian options would be high on the list of supplies. chrispin2 - good question... I have an opportunity to open a health food shop in Haggler's Corner off Queen's road. This is a new (currently being renovated) creative community workspace which will house units and workspaces for creative projects such as jewellery making, holistic crafts, carpentry, etc. With a cafe included. All centred around a courtyard that will be linked to a new community garden space. It's an exciting project and the health food shop will be a part of this community. As far as what I would like to be offerering, I am currently training to be a nutritional therapist and am also a hypnotherapist. As far as I'm concerned, good nutritional advice should be free to everyone - and the ability to get this advice here would be key. As well as being able to come in and speak to me, or drop in questions that I will answer I will be providing free menu and recipe plans and the raw materials with which to make them. I know there are a lot of people that would like to eat more healthily but are confused by the myriad of conflicting advice out there. As well as healthy staples (think grains, nuts, seeds etc) I would like this shop to be a place of ideas, inspiration and motivation for healthy eating. For example there might be meal plans, with recipe cards and ingredients that change regularly. Ingredients for smoothies, where you can choose your raw materials e.g. mango/spinach and I will blend them up there for you to take away. I would like to be offering tasty meal and snack ideas for children as well. In addition, I am often frustrated at how difficult it is to get raw foods eg raw cacao, raw buckwheat, raw nuts, raw oats - you can usually only get these online. So I would like to have a dedicated raw section. Also, I would like to sell good books on nutrition, motivational CDs and hypnosis CDs on various issues that I will make. I could go on....but this is in danger of becoming a extremely long post! shaz112 - I love the idea of a fruit pick and mix, will definitely add that to the mix! RozeePozee - I will be speaking to local health food shop owners for ideas and contacts so will check out the one in Broomhill, thanks. firestarter0 - 1. The emphasis will be on natural, unprocessed foods. The key to good nutrition! Clear labelling and ingredients are definitely part of my vision of free, good advice for everyone. 2. I am planning to have a question drop box as well, so if you are embarrassed to speak to me personally (or if the shop is busy, or I'm not there) then you can write a question, put it in an envelope with your name (or code name!) and I can answer it and put the envelope in an 'answers' rack for you to collect when you like. 3. I totally agree, it's ridiculous that eating healthily can be so expensive. I'll be selling things for as cheap as possible! It's an idea for me to look into budget ways of eating healthily and sharing this information with everyone. I intend to have a web site for the shop, so ordering specific foods will also be an option. Again thanks everyone, any more comments much appreciated.
  10. Hi there, I have posted a thread start on this topic in the general section, but thinking about it I reckon it's more appropriate here for foodies! I am looking into opening a health food shop with a difference. The focus will not be on supplements and powders but on real, honest to goodness nutrition from foods. I've got some questions I'm hoping you will help me with.... 1. If there was a health food shop opening in your area, what would you most want to see in there? What is important to you about healthy nutrition? 2. Would you be more inclined to visit this health food shop if there was a qualified nutritional therapist available to answer any questions you have for free? 3. What complaints (if any) do you have about current health food shops that are available to you? Thanks for your answers!
  11. Hi there, I hope I'm not breaking any rules here by doing a little market research...do let me know! 1. If there was a health food shop opening in your area, what would you most want to see in there? What is important to you about healthy nutrition? 2. And would you be more inclined to visit this health food shop if there was a qualified nutritional therapist available to answer any questions you have for free? 3. What complaints (if any) do you have about current health food shops that are available to you? Thanks for your answers!
  12. We've had raw milk delivered from these guys before: http://www.hookandson.co.uk/
  13. Well, I went to have a look round today and can confidently say I was very impressed and will be sending my son there. All the children looked very happy, the teachers were lovely, the classrooms had lots of space and were colourful. The playground is fab and even includes a climbing wall. As there is a lot of space, the classes can split up and have level specific tuition when necessary. Yes, most of the kids are from Asian background, but it's quite obvious that to the children, white/brown/black/yellow really doesn't mean anything... It's the parents with the worries and stigmas. So in terms of a white child being more intimidated - they would be no more intimidated than they would be at any other school. It's the parents that are intimidated... It seems to me now, with my new found knowledge that it's a real shame that some parents aren't sending their kids there due to skin colour. Very Happy Parent (who no longer has to bother worrying about the appeals process - hurrah!) PS Thanks to CryingLion for meeting up with me and giving lots of parental insights to the school too.
  14. I didn't apply for the school that my child is in the catchment area for - Abbeydale Primary. In hindsight, knowing that schools are oversubscribed, I could have guessed that he would be given a place there as opposed to the other ones I applied for. I'm going to look round Abbeydale on Friday (didn't look round as I thought that you definitely got a place at one of your chosed schools!) So I'm going to decide what to do after that....What about you?
