  1. Hi all, I'm based in S35 and wondering if there was anyone local who has any fish tank filter media or gravel that's already cycled? I've got a new tank I'm starting up and just looking to give it a kickstart. Cheers.
  2. Hello! Did you have any luck with this? I've got a 5 year old lad myself who now needs some company. Would be great to hear from you.
  3. Rehome or Sale? - Rehome Reason for Rehome - My boy Icarus is nearly 5 years old. He's been with his brothers all his life but sadly they've passed away in a matter of months following short battles with illness. He's healthier and bouncier than ever but I'm at work all day and if I'm doing anything in the evening I can't give him the attention he needs. He's lonely and although ridden with guilt the only thing that puts a smile on my face in the thought of him with other ferrets and a loving family. Location - S3 Has the Pet been in Rescue Previously? - No Can the animal be picked up and put into a basket without the risk of scratching or biting? - Yes Age & Sex - 5 in May & male Breed/ Mix - Ferret with polecat markings Colour/coat type - Dark, have pics Can the animal be groomed/handled without biting or scratching? - He's lovely as pie but as with all ferrets he can get very playful but he's never hurt me Live in / out - He lives outside in a hutch but I'm sure he can adapt to indoor living Neutered - Yes Chipped - Yes Any Current or Historical Health or Psychological Issues - No, he's a very healthy ferret Temperament - Very exciteable and playful, will lick your nose out of affection Any special knowledge needed - Prefereably someone experienced with ferrets. He's not difficult but I'd need to know he's in good hands General Information you can share - This is not a decision I make lightly. In fact it's one of the hardest things I've had to come to terms with. I'm doing this for the good of both of us and it hurts tremendously but deep down I know it's for the best.
  4. Thanks for the sugfestion. I need them whole and not shredded unfortunately.
  5. I use newspapers essentially as a litter tray for my ferrets. I used to pick them up on the tram but haven't had much luck recently. So if anyone's got any excess piles of newspaper I could collect, please let me know.
  6. The fish have been rehomed. Thank you.
  7. I'm moving house and looking to decommission my fish tank. If someone wants the lot then that would be ideal but happy for you to just take specific fish. Reason for Rehome - Moving house Time Scale – Moving in 2 months time Sale Amount - Free Location - Hillsborough, S6 Approximate size now and full grown size - 8 Rummynose tetras, 5 Pygmy Corys, 3 Kuhli Loaches, 2 Amano Shrimp Any Current health problems - No, all healthy and full grown Compatibility with other fish - Community fish Beginners, moderate or experienced levels of fishkeeping required - Beginner Easy to feed - Yes Live food, dried food, frozen or fresh - All Destructive Behaviour - No Temperature range - 24C-26C Tropical,Coldwater, Marine or Brackish water required - Tropical fish Also looking to get rid of the tank itself which is 110 litres and measures 80 x 35 x 40cm. I have filter, air pump, heater, spare lights and other miscellaneous bits and pieces too. Just looking to offload before I move in September.
  8. My 100W fish tank heater has overheated and I'm currently cooling the tank down and changing water but the shops aren't open until tomorrow morning. Does anyone have a 100W heater I can borrow/buy/have until I can get to a shop tomorrow? My number is xxx, any help is appreciated. ---------- Post added 16-06-2017 at 10:34 ---------- Managed to get hold of one. Crisis averted.
  9. It sounds like you've done all the research which is a very comforting thought. Quick 2 pieces of advice: 1. Always change their play space with different stimulus. Cardboard boxes, plastic bags (plenty of holes obviously), ball pool balls, tubes, toys, etc. Ferrets will smell it, claw at it, bite it and then they're bored. So always make sure you've got plenty of rotation. 2. Make sure the harness you've got isn't stretchy or velcro. I had one on a velcro leash and they get out of it very quickly. Gave me a real fright.
  10. The last few times I've walked past they've been closed and honestly it's not the most reputable place anyway, especially for fish as their tank conditions are awful. Don't think anywhere else in the city centre does fish to be honest. I personally use Elm Lane Aquatics in S5, bit of a drive but definitely worth it and the best independent aquatics shop around in my opinion. Other than that there is Jollyes near Meadowhall, they also have clean tanks and good supply of fish.
  11. I've got a 2-inch male American Flagfish that needs a new home. Introduced him to my community tank and he's a little too aggressive for my minnows and tetras. Hasn't done any damage but he's just at them all the time. Please do your research as I will not give him to anyone who doesn't know proper care for these fish. Cheers.
  12. How long is the RTS? I too am in S6 and may be interested
  13. They won't all die unless they're all gasping at the surface. If that's the case then the water quality is the issue, a water change should solve the oxygen issue temporarily. There's aquatic shops is S6 and S5 where you can get everything you need.
  14. I got mine from here - http://www.happyhutch.co.uk/ There's a ferret hutch section but it doesn't seem to contain anything at the moment so might be worth messaging them to see what they can offer. Could also try - http://homeandroost.co.uk/product-category/rabbit-hutches/
