  1. Used to use the courts all the time back in the 70s / 80s along with the golf course and Bingham Park for football cricket and sledging etc. Defo a potential hidden gem that needs plenty of money investing in it, years ago the area was packed with tennis players ,golfers etc but you walk through now and its obviously deserted. When I was in my teens we would have a full sized football match most nights in Bingham Park, in the 90s when my son was young, loads of us played football on the top 3 courts that were astroturfed over, great days ! just hope they return to the area ! Reminds me of the Highcliffe / Greystones pub in that area in a way, when we drank there in the eighties and nineties it wasn't the best but was always our local. Its had some money thrown at it now and although it wouldn't be a lot of our cups of tea, it looks as though it is being used to its full potential.

  3. On the A57 at peak times driving down to the Normanton springs roundabout, its the drivers who leave a 50 yard gap between them and the car in front that cause all this chaos behind them.

  5. I worked there in the offices from 1979 to 1983 before being made redundant. I was trained in various depts such as accounts, export sales, shipping etc before being moved to Ecclesfield (Lee Steel Wire). Obviously it is 27 years since I left and the memory plays tricks but here are some of the names of the office staff I remember. Apologies if any of the names are incorrect ! Jean Saxton, Peter Wood, Pete Otley,Fred Dawson and his daughter, Sheryl Spacey,Roland Rogers, Ted Shelton, Dick Jarvis, Stephen Johnson,Ken Ramsden, Ivor Seemley,Lesley Saynor and her mate Mary from Export Sales,John Andrews, Nigel Phillips his brother Anthony,Jill and Jackie Walker,Theresa and her sister,Walter Pearson, John Revill,Bill Church,Mr Cannadine, Mr Sadler, Jane the typist, Jill and Margaret from Rotherham, Mike Ketton. I would remember more if it wasn't so long ago ! I remember the 1979 works do was at the Embassy Club in Sheffield plus the year after was somewhere in Rotherham. I only spent 4 years at Arthur Lee's but have some great memories !
  6. Listen to our Sheffield accent, we say 'car' and 'park' the posh midlands way, northern places such as Barnsley and Leeds and above say caaaar and paaaark the northern way. A lot of Sheffield blokes try and say it the northern way but it never sounds right , you can tell they are just putting on the accent to try and sound more rough and tough !
