January 2020 Bus Service Changes
catmiss replied to Michael_N's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Try the hourly 135, regularly missing so a 2 hour wait. Most people get another bus and walk take an up to 40 min walk or share taxis. Prediction is this route will go due to underuse! -
Perhaps we are looking at this through rose tinted parenthood glasses. Some teenage children can be extremely challenging especially when drink/drugs are involved. Theft ,violence and criminality can impact on younger siblings and cause conflict of interest for parents. I worked in a substance misuse project and saw many loving family members who could only maintain contact in the safety of the project. Most of these families had tried to access support for their child through statutory agencies without success- in fact some advised making offspring homeless as the quickest route to support. The Homeless Act deems anyone under 18 as vulnerable so eligible for immediate housing albeit temporary accommodation until appropriate permanent housing is found. Unfortunately for some individuals the issues causing the breakdown of family housing reoccurs in temporary housing

January 2020 Bus Service Changes
catmiss replied to Michael_N's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The bus services in the city have really deteriorated over recent years and yet prices continue to rise -they are in danger of emulating rail travel. How does this sit within SCC green agenda? -
The way Councils administer the Homelessness Act also plays a part, particularly the medical/vulnerable criteria. Before austerity SCC would be accept some people with substance misuse and/or mental health into these categories but this became less common as budgets shrank. As these, probably most vulnerable individuals, took the hostel places others fell by the wayside. Charitable accommodation, stripped of grants, could do less rehabilitation and could not contain antisocial behaviour-some of the long-standing homeless are banned from many provisions. Sheffield has only 2 male direct access hostels which are always full and, unlike many other large cities, no night shelter

I became a student nurse at 18 and left after 26 years as trained nurses started to become managers rather than care givers. If I could turn back time I’d be a politician to try and prevent this -
Bring Tickets Or Conductor Back On Buses
catmiss replied to 1295galaxy's topic in General Discussions
Are you seriously asking an organisation who have cut services to the bone and still can’t run them reliably to reinstate conductors! SYPTE and First don’t care about passengers or staff, just profits -
Hilton Hotel & gym to close / reopen
catmiss replied to bendix's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Rumour has it that current owner was expecting Hilton to lease from him for a period until he could secure alternative partners/use but Hilton have defaulted. Seems odd if you were spending this sort of money you wouldn’t have this in a watertight contract but you can keep a few staff on a week by week contract to provide security and maintenance and thereby avoid redundancy payments -
Ooh I’d love to go to ‘Manners Top’, imagine the please and thank yous, doors not being slammed in your face and Christmas trolley etiquette

Sheffield Christmas Markets. So Disappointing!
catmiss replied to Reesh2052's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Visited Skipton market 2 weeks ago and it was horrendous. Too busy to get anyway near the stalls which were a mix of common market products and over priced Christmas tat. Cafes and restaurants refusing entry, takeaways with 20 min queues and then nowhere to sit. Herded into coach park and kept waiting in the cold and dark for an hour until our coach was allowed access. Best part of the day was the canal trip, made festive only by our fellow travellers, exactly the same as the summer offering. Won’t be going back -
It’s the sort of things they want to get done (and I don’t mean Brexit) that worries me

I’ve used Hermes in the past to send charity parcels and had quite good service from home collections to delivery. However in the last couple of months the charity forum members nationwide are reporting issues with both collection and delivery. I couldn’t log into the website and requested link for password change which didn’t work either. After 2 weeks I’ve still had no reply to my complaint

Consequences Of Brexit [Part 8] Read First Post Before Posting
catmiss replied to mort's topic in General Discussions
Commentators are predicting a softer Brexit now Boris doesn’t have to cow tow to the ERG or the DUP -
The Labour Party failed for several reasons: . Their wishy/washy policy on Brexit . Jeremy Cornyn, alienating the traditional labour voter . throwing money at it leftist policies without clear costings . An electorate who are too young/have forgotten or forgiven the Thatcher years and brutal decimation of manufacturing

January 2020 Bus Service Changes
catmiss replied to Michael_N's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Believe me, it is possible and it did happen - I don’t lie!! it’s a regular occurrence in Hillsborough where there are long waits and 2 or more busses turn up together. -
In the 70s my mum worked at Middlewood and on her day off would sometimes bring four elderly ladies home for tea-their only excursion outside. All four had been placed in the hospital decades before for social ‘crimes’ such as prostitution, pilfering and having illegitimate children-prior to the welfare state. By the time of the Reform Act these women were so institutionalised they had to remain in ‘care’. My friend now works in the community where people with learning difficulties and enduring mental health are cared for 24 hrs in 2-4 bedrooms bungalows. They attend regular social activities/excursions and have a variety of brought in therapies. I know which I would favour.

January 2020 Bus Service Changes
catmiss replied to Michael_N's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Is this supposed to compensate bus users for the terrible service they receive. Given 30 minute waits for 51 and 52 services this week and then have 2 busses arrive together I can only conclude that busses are ‘riding shotgun’ for a cowboy service. No doubt my complaint will elicit the standard weather excuse- after all it has been a bit cold/sunny/drizzly this week
