Bandmaster Keith Wileman said: ‘The Salvation Army recently celebrated 150 years of serving at the heart of the community and this year presents an opportunity for the band to celebrate its own ministry and heritage among people in Sheffield. ‘Throughout the band’s history the musicians have maintained their commitment of going to the community to bring hope – from monthly open-air meetings, to concerts around the city, to helping other charities fundraise, as well as visiting hospices and the children’s hospital to provide cheer and comfort to those staying there. The band provides so much more than music – its volunteer members are a source of support and friendship to many. ‘We are looking forward to the Young Stars in Concert event – both Charlie and Isobel are excellent musicians and we know the concert will be a fantastic evening of music, as well as a great way to start our anniversary celebrations.’ Over the next 12 months, a number of events will take place at The Salvation Army hall on Psalter Lane, including a visit from world-renowned Black Dyke Band and a reunion for musicians who were once a part of the band.
