  1. you really MUST play poker for cash, me and a group of mates usually play a tournament with a £5 buy, since a fiver is bugger all for a fun night of getting drunk and playing poker. However winning £ 50 is well worth playing for. None of use are that great but we have a right laugh. best bet would be meet up round a mates house. but having said that we play in a pub. Anyone know if the gambling laws apply to a "private party" ? See ive always been told that aslong as no money is changing hands then a landlord can serve all night, since its a private party ie hes got a few mates round his "house" for a few drinks/
  2. Hey There, Im 19 years old and currently studying the final year of an adv NVQ lvl 4 in accounting (AAT) I work full time and earn pretty good money (about 15k) upon completing my NVQ my pay could take a nice jump, since i would begin studying toward the ACCA qualification. I work in the accounts department as a general accounts assistant and get involved with lots of bits and bobs, but im also the IT Co-ordinator there, and look after a network of about 50 users. Now I love the theory behind accounts but i find that i do not progress quickly enough to maintain my interest, and sometimes find things a little basic and repetitive. Since leaving school i have self taught myself VB.NET and really enjoy writing applications using it, I wrote a fully functional purchase ordering programme for my company which works very well, for tracking purchase orders and posting invoices. Now im thinking that if im getting a little bored with accounts now, how will i feel in 10 years, is it just because im still doing it at a relatively low level, or because its just not my thing. Whereas with IT i love everything about it, fixing peoples problems writing apps / reports thinking my way around solutions logically etc etc. Having looked around there doesnt seem to be many companies looking for "juniors" everyone wants a graduate, even though im certain if a company took the risk and trained me i would pay off, as i tend to pick things up very quickly This leaves me pondering whether i should look at going back into full time education, enrolling on a 4 year Software Engineering course at Sheffield Hallam (I have NVQ lvl 3 from first 2 years study of AAT which meets the entry requirements) I dont think i would have wasted 3 years on my AAT since my ideal job would be working on a manufacturing software package or accounts package, in which case my background knowledge would help alot. Does anyone have any suggestions on other ways of breaking into IT, im quite happy to start on a support call desk working my way up, but i would need to know that i wasnt going to be stuck there indefinately. Has anyone done a software engineering course? any thoughts? my main concern is from earning to earning nothing.

  4. Im seriously considering taking 6 months - a year out and going to work abroad somewhere nice and sunny Has anyone ever done this? I just want to go abroad get a bar job, rent an apartment and just get away from it all for a while, more than anything just to say that i have done it. If i were to go somewhere like Ibiza or Portugal how easy is it to find work and somewhere to kip? are the bar jobs as badly paid for a silly number of hours as i imagine they are? Any advice would be appreciated
  5. I walk down that spooky lane everyday to goto work, never found it the least bit spooky The spooky bit is when you turn off Livesey Street just before the college to get to work. I just hope all these new students wont mean increased waiting times at Lillys Sandwich shop. And its literally 5/10 minutes walk to hillsborough corner. I think its an ideal location.
  6. everyones allowed in on mondays great night

  8. because i need a desktop one. I work as an accountant and its just not always practical to use the computer
  9. Ok im sick to death of adding up list of numbers on some daft little calculator where you cant press the buttons fast enough I need to buy a desktop calculator that has the keyboard style keys that you can feel yourself pressing. Keying in number on a keyboard keypad is no problem for me and can do it very quickly and without looking, but calculators are soo annoying cos i seem to always miss pressing a key correctly. anyone know of any such model because i cant seem to find any on ebay of the net most of the printing calculators have these type of keys but dont want a printing one, and i really need one thats battery operated. Any help would be gladly appreciate nothing worse than adding up a long list of numbers 3 times and getting a different total each time.
  10. I used to get them ALL the time, particularly in summer, might sound stupid but walking past a long fence on the shadow side used to be a nightmare for me, cos the flickering light in corner of my eye used to give me a headache which often progressed to a fully blown migraine. I once had a migraine on christmas day then the week after one on my birthday was gutted. Paracetamol never did anything to help, but migraleve often helped if i caught it early enough.

  14. I was bought up on whites lane wybourn my dad lived there for like 30 years and alot of my family still live there. Whites lane was reletively quite and most of the people, provided that you dont get on the wrong side of them are friendly enough. On the other side of St Johns school field theres a new housing estate that was full of teenage yobbos looking for a fight. Other than that i never saw any real problems. What bit of the wybourn where you looking at? Likeplain talker said theres just the odd streetsi would avoid like the plague. Most of the residents are older people who have lived there all their lives and are not likely to start causing trouble for no reason. I would advise you not to get into petty arguements though, because those freil old ladies usually have 60 grand children who love her very much
