  1. Thanks. I think both Sky should apologise to both clubs. It didn't paint the city in a good light, and we have enough issues with derby day as is...
  2. Watching on the TV..Was there a lot of noise during the minute silence?
  3. But don't support a second referendum (where that would be an option).
  4. I was killing time before my stint at the Peace and Craft Fair and spotted that UKIP had a stall outside the Town Hall. Thought it would be interesting to leave my remoaner liberal bubble and have a chat with people of a significantly different political viewpoint Spoke to a few different people and the conversations varied for thoughtful discussion of the deterioration of political discussion in the UK, through to finger jabbing and "when you're my age you views will probably change". One lady claimed that the refugee crisis was some conspiracy to oust white people from Europe. Did make me wonder whether the higher ups in the Party think of the impression this gives of their organisation. Anyway did anyone else have any encounters? They mentioned that they had some abuse last time they were out with their stall smashed up (which isn't really on).
  5. Hi, I've never done parkrun before and would probably struggle to jog the whole way. Do any people walk some of it at Hallam?
  6. Hi Everyone I hope no one is too sick with election fever. It's quite hard to find details of hustings planned in the next couple of weeks. The Star has a page http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/general-election-2017-hustings-in-sheffield-1-8546062, but I suspect it is incomplete. Does anyone have any details of other's happening? Any in Hallam for example?
  7. The Sheffield Amnesty International Local Group (in conjunction with Sheffield University and Reprieve) are showing the award winning documentary "Fourteen Days in May" Date: Thursday 18/05/2017 Time: 18:15 - 20:45 Place: Auditorium. Sheffield University Student Unions, Western Rd Price: Free (but please book http://bit.ly/2qP4jnf) The film recounts the final days before the execution of Edward Earl Johnson, an American prisoner convicted of rape and murder and imprisoned in the Mississippi State Penitentiary. The documentary crew, given access to the prison warden, guards and chaplain and to Johnson and his family, filmed the last days of Johnson's life in detail. The documentary will be introduced by Dan Dolan (Reprieve's Head of Policy) about Reprieve's work since the film. A panel discussion and audience Q&A will follow with representatives from Sheffield English, Sheffield Philosophy, Sheffield Amnesty and Reprieve talking about the impact of literature and film about the death penalty and contemporary developments in capital punishment around the world. Contact Alex Jagger for more details ([email protected])
  8. I'm not in it for the glory Hannah ;-). Can't film myself when I'm clearing as both hands are required but I'll do some before and after shots if we get another load. hotrock - If the Council doesn't organise it maybe somebody else could. Political Parties? Churches? Only need a few hundred volunteers and every single road in Sheffield could have one of its pavements cleared. My muscles ache but it was nice to see my handiwork this evening. Less ice down our end! ---------- Post added 28-01-2015 at 21:30 ---------- Ready again. It's looking pretty snowy out there!
  9. Well, I was ready. Cleared (and gritted) one of the pavements down our road in S11. Good luck to any others out there!
  10. Looks as if I can put the shovel back in the basement the
  11. I was one of the people who Amey tempted with a free shovel a couple of years ago. I'm watching the snow come down and girding myself for tomorrow morning. Any other Snow Wardens on here? Any advice on how to make the biggest impact with the smallest effort?
  12. Hi Does anyone know where I may be able to get some Djarum (or other kretek, i.e. Indonesian clove cigarettes) in Sheff? A (very) decent tobaccanist may have them, but I only know of the one near Castle market Ta http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kretek
  13. Have you tried Rare and Racy of Devonshire Street? They have quite a bit of non-fiction upstairs
