Thanks, but I'm looking for someone to make to whatever pattern I like to fit - I'm not a standard size. Looking for everything from skirts to suits/jackets. ---------- Post added 07-12-2012 at 10:19 ---------- Thanks, I'll contact them and see what they say. ---------- Post added 07-12-2012 at 10:20 ---------- I'll phone this one too, get some idea of costs and what they do.

Anyone know where I can find a good dressmaker - anywhere in Sheffield or surrounding areas - to make everyday clothes. I can only find recommendations for bridal and formal wear. I have loads of nice fabrics but no-one to make them up for me.

Moving to Sheffield and looking for a knitting group

Just seen a thread that recommends Running with Scissors in Sheffield for basic knitting courses. They teach cast on and off, knit and purl and you do a small project to take home. Look them up on the net. -

John Lewis has a free group. Last Wednesday in the month from 5.30 to 7.30. Groups, however, aren't really designed to teach you to knit - though members are happy to give advice and help. You really need either a beginners course - John Lewis sometimes run them - or a good book, youtube video etc. There are several other groups in Sheffield where you can meet other knitters, really depends in which area you want to be. -
Thanks I'll check them both out before deciding.

I've been knitting - on and off - for a long time, but recent mags I've bought seem to reference a lot of new methods of casting on/off, finishing etc. Can anyone recommend a good book which will cover this sort of thing. Also blocking - something I've never done, but as I'm starting to knit lace it seems I need to learn how to do it properly.

I second Ann's recommendation. This is a wonderful shop with great staff. Check it out. Liz
