  1. I think it sounds like a fine idea! I've been to a few little community festivals in Sheff and they've been great fun. I would be happy to help - used to organise events so can help with a bit of whatever.
  2. That sounds like a grand idea! I'll definately be up for that. Good to see that something interesting's happening. Let me know if you need a hand organising anything, would be happy to help. I'm a big bluegrass fan too, I'm also keen on the Louvin Brothers and has anyone here heard of 'Old and In the Way' I think it was Jerry Garcia's band? I have a ratty old cassette and I've been trying to find it on CD.
  3. Hi GHS1961, That sounds very promising! I was hoping to uncover some kind of scene. I'll drop him a line and see what's on the horizon. Does anyone here go to the 'meets' on a Sunday? Would be good to have a chat in person and swop notes.
  4. And is it any good, used to work at the Publishers, dont think I wanna see it if they've ruined it. Opinions?
  5. I think that time is the key here, most of these drugs take about 6 weeks to get to a stage where they're really effective and you've got used to the side effects. I would advise that youre really carefull when you come off them too. I cut down gradually but had problems with my 'mind cutting out' the easiest way I can describe it. Have you thought about councelling rather than drugs? Just because if there is a specific reason for your anxiety getting to the root of it may be useful? Anyway, lots of good luck and support.
  6. Perhaps we need to compile some kinda top 20 albums or start up a swop system?? I seem to like stuff that's a bit older... (wilko, Grand Drive, Lucinda Williams, Jayhawks, ect.) probably cause I used to have money to buy CD's and now I dont. Would be keen to try some new stuff out. I have a fiddle... but we dont talk about that.
  7. Yeah, I know there's alot of 'indie' or 'pop' stuff that has a bit of a country or americana twang. I tend to like quite a bit of that stuff but I also like some of the mainstream country such as Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris. I think the lable 'Alt Country' just makes it a bit easier to dissassociate from all the really cheesey American Country that's popular in the states and make it more acceptable to say that you like country?
  8. I'll have a listern to the Low Country site too.. see what I rec, always open to suggestions.
  9. I really like a London band called, The Redland Palomino Company... here's a link http://www.redlands.moonfruit.com/ dont be scared by the first page.
  10. I was just wondering if there was interest or a night on the go already? I've only been in Shef 6 months so dont really know the scene, but was thinking of getting a night together or helping out. I use to do a bit of this kind of thing in London. GP's great! Kind of the granddaddy of A.C.
  11. Just wondered if there were any other alt country fans out there? And if there are any good country nights in Shef, either DJ's or live bands???
  12. urgh! Yuck!!! I feel quite queesy now.
  13. Yeah, think you lost the ladies with the last line!
  14. I'm a bit of a whimp when it comes to bid rides and children under 5, so thinking more on the lines of bumper cars and candyfloss. Someone suggested Butlins at Skeggie, which could be a laugh - anyone been?? And, Happy Birthday to you babel_fish! I'll wager all those relaxing facials with get counteracted by the champers!
  15. Dear Fareast, I do dress as though I'm in the French Resistance so I just want the curtant to complete the look! Arhh, no I just keep getting woken by the bleeding 5.00 sunrise every morning and my blankets just dont cut it! Thanks for all the suggestions - fingers crossed I'll get sorted tomorrow.
  16. Sorry I dont know sheffield very well.. I'm getting there slowly.. is Queens Road in town?
  17. Hiya Rubydazzler, Can you tell me what day that's on please? sounds good, well it sounds cheap which is a winner!
  18. They're cracking down on this on the buses. If someone spits at the driver they've got a little kit to seal it in so they can do a DNA test and find out who the culprit is. Perhaps you should take a simular tack and get in touch with the police. They might be able to identify who's doing this? Although kicking the crap outta them would probably be more rewarding for you and sadly would probably have more impact on them.
  19. Does anyone know where I can buy it locally. I'm trying to make a blind for my horribly large skylight.
  20. Where's American Adventures theme park? Sounds interesting, I'm quite the little cowgirl at heart.
  21. Well, I'll just be twiddling me thumbs and watching This Morning then?
  22. What about a portrait of the family? All sorts of different styles are available. Or a picture of where he grew up or the church he got married in?
  23. I found myself in this situation, where someone famous sexually harrassed me for a few weeks. Although it was pretty tempting to sell it all to the papers I thought I'd just end up looking like some sad slapper. You just know the News of the World would want to dress you up in some frilly knickers as part of the deal.. brrrrrrrrrrr..
  24. Its my birthday in a few weeks and I've gone and taken the day off work so I can have some fun... but I dont know what to do in the day. I have a few friends that aren't working so I can rope them into hanging out with me, but I fancy doing something a bit different. So does anyone know of any funfairs, ammusment parks, good days out that are close by? I really fancy the dodgems (sp?!!) and some candyfloss! Just to recapture my lost youth and all! But any suggestions are welcome!
