I've been a lurker on here for about a year, but finally I've registered to enter the discussion on this topic.
Me and my mates all like our real ale and will tend to check out the Wetherspoons on a Saturday to decide which has the best beer (minimum standard = ABV 5%+) on before going to the ice hockey.
We're all agreed that Jaipur is the finest beer going, but also enjoy other offerings from Thornbridge including St Petersburg, Kipling, Jaywick and Halcyon.....It really is the best brewery in my opinion!!
I'd agree that Brewdog also do some very nice ales, I've currently got cases of Punk, Hardcore IPA, Dogma and Chaos Theory stored in my shed (No, I'm not giving my address away).
As for being able to tell different beers by the taste, I did a beer knock-out competition last Summer starting with 64 different bottled beers.
My Wife would take two beers from the draw and put them into 2 seperate glasses, I'd then tell her my favourite and that would go through to the next round.
The quarter finals were best of 3, the semis best of 5 and the final best of 7.....Jaipur won it without dropping a game, beating Fullers Golden Pride 4 - 0 in the final.
As for the Sheffield Tap, we all call it Platform 9 3/4 in reference to Harry Potter, because it's a magical world of beer.....Just a shame about the lack of seats.
That's the end of my 1st post.....Don't be too hard on me.
Regards
Doom
