  1. Hi again Mick. Any idea what Phil went on to do?
  2. No replies to this, just trying again.
  3. Just resurrecting this thread...DOMINO 71, sorry i've just noticed your message, if you're still on the forum let me know and i will PM you. SYLVIA001, I noticed you went to Bents Green school, did you have long blonde hair and was there from around 1966 onward?
  4. Hi KC. How long did your Simca last before being recycled into baked bean cans? Seem to remember the rust began to show through on dads within months!
  5. My late sister spent a considerable amount of time in Lodge Moor due to polio in the late 1940s, this horrible disease robbed her of the use of her legs. Sadly she was also born blind, cruel world sometimes.
  6. Seems a coincidence, didn't know whether to believe a word he said, strange guy.
  7. I didn't attend Silverdale, but Bents Green due to health reasons. A few years ago we held a reunion and a chap called 'Paul Benson' attended, no one can remember this guy and a few of the things he said just didn't ring true, his dad's 'chauffeur' used to bring him to school in his Rolls apparently (?!) and he said he is now a millionaire 'lord' and lives in Switzerland, drives a Ferrari etc etc. He didn't seem to remember much about the school, although the rest of us obviously did, it was all very strange. Just made me wonder if he was a bit mixed up and perhaps attended Silverdale?? Does the name ring any bells with anyone? He would be perhaps late 50s, early 60s now.
  8. I probably knew what he meant, well i was from Basegreen after all.......😉
  9. Does anyone remember a Doreen Butler? late 60s possibly, although I may have the wrong school!
  10. I remember hearing 'something for the weekend sir?' as a kid, most times when I was in Stans barbers, up the steps at Gleadless townend, 60s/70s.
  11. As Rockers rule says, we were probably at a lot of those concerts as well. possibly even shouted WALLY to each other!! I don't get over to Sheff much these days, live out in the wilds but try to get to the Dronny sports club as often as poss to see John Reilly and the gang and also the Greystones if it's something I fancy. Roll on getting back to normal.
  12. We must be a similar age, Adam Wakeman will be touring with Ozzy when (if!) all gets back to normal, and if Ozzy lasts that long!! I've not seen the Strawbs for years, used to see Lindisfarne regularly, similar vein. Gordon is another one of my favourites, met him on numerous occasions, lovely guy. He has a really good website giltrap.co.uk you probably know about it. it's rubbish at the moment with all the venues closed, big live music fan, sounds like you are too! Mike.
  13. Sad to hear this mate, I supplied your dads shop many years ago, hundreds of similar shops then, virtually all gone, thank ebay etc, we all use them if honest.
  14. Well how spooky is this! I was only talking to my mate about this a couple of hours ago! I was there and got their autographs, I was 14 at the time and went on to work for a record company supplying the same shop. we were talking about Adam Wakeman this afternoon and his 'Jazz Sabbath' spoof, and of course the connection with his dad and the Strawbs. Still love 'Lay down', timeless.
  15. Hi, I started this thread some time ago so it's good to hear from you , unfortunately in the sad circumstances you mention. I believe Pecks closed in the mid 70s, certainly the Sheffield branch did, it being taken over by 'Shopacheck' who my father carried on working with for a number of years. I would love to see the photos you mention, there seems to be little history of Pecks, despite them being in business for many years. If you read back through the thread you will see the role my father had with the company. I did notice the head office building is still standing in Rotherham, still showing the Pecks name, although in a sorry state now. Regards, Mike.
  16. He's a lot better, will never be A1 again, just learning to take things a bit easier.
  17. Hi Gillian, I started the year before you left, just as the 'new' school was being built. You have now visited the 'new, new' school!! the 'old' one lasting all of around 40 odd years. Although I no longer live in Sheffield I try and visit as often as possible to eat in the 'Hidden Gem' cafe which is housed in the old changing rooms around the back, it serves wonderful food. I called in to the school last year but there is no one left that even remembers any of the staff from our days, it was all rather sad.
  18. The Devonshire was my late dads favourite pub and one which I also frequented regularly in my teens when Tom and Jean ran it. Remember spending hours on the swing in the beer garden as a kid. Lovely couple, proper pub.
  19. No, he would be around 10-15 years older.
  20. Long shot. I am looking to find a Mark Smith, he would have been in his 20s in the 1970s and I would have thought he would have possibly gone into the art/teaching profession. His father was called Francis and was also a teacher, they lived at Dobbin Hill. Anyone know of him?
  21. Doing a little research into the late actress Susan Littler. Does anyone know which street in Sheffield she lived, schooling etc? Lovely actress, sadly passed away at such a young age.
  22. That's a shame, thanks to all for trying anyway.
  23. In 1971/72 I was the sole winner one particular week of the 'Blades bingo'. Does anyone have copies of the programmes from this time they could look through to find which issue it was, so I could then order a copy from ebay perhaps? Bit vague only knowing the year(s) but even that's pretty good for me these days! It would read M Spencer, £100 winner. Lot of money in those days, went straight to the Castle market for a 'Harrington' jacket!! Still do it now but can't seem to get past a tenner, happy to support the Blades though.
  24. Further to the above, Ray back in hospital again, was hoping to be a couple of days but keeping him in. I will relay news as i get it.
