  1. So has the 'Chinese' element died the death? Hopefully so - can't imagine why anyone would be interested in a Chinese theme.
  2. Please does anyone know a Sheffield car bodyshop which is good at finding where rainwater leaks into a car and fixing it? I have a classic Mini Cooper which has been to a Mini specialist three times now about this problem, had new doorseals, but with no improvement so think a fresh approach is needed.
  3. Slightly off topic, but in my opinion cyclists should be obliged to pass a test and hold a licence and third party insurance to be on the highways. A couple of days ago a cyclist hurtling down my road at a speed faster than most car drivers would negotiate it as there are vehicles parked on both sides 24/7 ran down a pedestrian at the junction with the main road. The pedestrian had failed to see him coming due to said parked vehicles. Had a car driver done this they would have been done for careless, if not dangerous, driving.
  4. Please could someone just teach today's students some good manners and consideration for the rest of the populace - oh, and how to use a bus properly would be good. Ie - pointing out that there are seats and some room to stand away from the vehicle's entrance/exit, thus allowing other passengers to board and alight unhindered.
  5. It's not only the city centre - twice recently I've been approached on the Infirmary Road Tesco's car park by well dressed, fully made up and smart looking women. On the first occasion one asked if I could give her 10p as she was this amount short for the cost of a loaf. Before she approached me I had seen her speaking to another shopper and afterwards she scurried across the car park to catch another shopper. On the second occasion a different woman asked if I had any spare change.
  6. Why does the snooker have to be here? Waste of a good theatre. Why can't we have something a bit more upmarket like a Shakespeare or Opera Festival?
  7. Am I the only person disturbed by reading in the same news report as the item stating that Britain will be accepting (and presumably financing) 'thousands of refugees' another report stating that around five and a half thousand British cancer sufferers' drugs can no longer be afforded by the health service. Please tell me that I'm not the only person who believes that 'charity begins at home' and that the needs of these cancer sufferers, many of whom have, I assume, worked and contributed to the British economy should take precedence. Britain should accept only those refugees which it can afford - after the needs of its own population (of all creeds and colours) have been completely met. For me personally at least the situation has made a decision which a few months ago I thought would be very difficult, much simpler. I refer to the answer I will give when the promised referendum on remaining in Europe takes place.
  8. I go to the Living Well gym at the Hilton, but these days would frankly not recommend it. The gym is ok but the pool is way too warm to swim in and a lot of the staff rude and miserable. It's a shame as it used to be really very nice. Anyone go to Greens these days and if so what do you think of it as I'm looking for a change when my current membership runs out.
  9. I used to be a regular at the superb little bistro 'Eat' in the Crucible and was very sad to see it close. They did awesome, and reasonably priced, salad and a drink offers at lunch time, but looking at the menu at this place I can't see anything like these. Shame.
  10. Re using other local shops - I like Jack Fultons but it's rather hit and miss. To elaborate they recently had some nice Pinot Grigio wine. Yesterday there was only Chardonnay (don't like that - too sweet for my taste) and was told by the (?) manager that there would be no more Pinot until (quote) 'we've got rid of that lot' which is hardly a customer orientated approach. Yes, the fruit shop is nice but sometimes really pricey. Baxters is a decent newsagent, but the (?) owner is arrogant and rude so I don't go there any more. I regularly use the DIY and electrical shops, sometimes the chemist and flower shops - all of which are good. I occasionally buy books at the charity shops, but avoid the birthday card type shops as they are more expensive than their equivalents in the city centre/Meadowhall.
  11. Well if it's a rip off shop too I guess it will still be the 'Tesco run', but I would have thought with the two shops side by side there would have to be some competition!
  12. I only found out about this a day or two ago. It's the best news I've heard in a year! Usually I drive down to Tesco or Morrisons each week as I can't afford to shop at the Co-op. It may, or may not, have 'fair trade credentials' but the prices are astronomic compared to a proper supermarket. Over the last few days I've been forced in there due to the problem of getting my car in and out of the snow filled drive. Everything I buy costs around 10 to 20p more which really adds up on a basket full. Please, oh please Sainsburys open up soon!
  13. I used to shop regularly in Broomhill - until they introduced parking restrictions. Never go there now. I believe this scheme will have the same effect on people who shop in Hillsborough - although at least you have the big Morrisons parking area! Parking is a problem everywhere though. I live at Crookes and have a driveway which morons constrantly block with their cars.
  14. The road I live on had been gritted and everyone, including the bin lorry, managed to traverse it all morning - yet a package from Parcel Force was undelivered at midday due to 'adverse weather conditions'. Sorry, but I really don't think they try hard enough!
