  1. Sorry, I didn't see your post sooner. Hope you found a group of guitar players. I've moved on to another group now.
  2. Are you a regular, otherwise I'm puzzled. We didn't have anyone new turn up last week...all welcome though. ---------- Post added 06-08-2015 at 13:09 ---------- Glad I know it's you, thanks for recommendations

  4. The group number are anywhere between 4 and 10 at a session. We meet 4pm at the Fat Cat pub (upstairs). Mix of guys and girls mostly 40-50 year olds, but young outlook We usually go round the room and people choose what they'd like to play and we all pitch in. We started with Justin Sandercoe's "Beginner's Guitar Songbook" plus a lot of other songs we download from the internet. The standard varies, but we can play barre chords and just started doing fingerpicking. The format is very relaxed and open to idea. The sets are very varied - Bob Dylan, Tom Petty Fleetwood Mac, R.E.M, Beatles, Oasis, Mumford & Sons, Iron & Fire, The Verve, Stereophonics, Ed Sheeran, Pearl Jam etc. As I say we're friendly and people can bring along songs they'd like to try. We had a teacher for a while, but Sunday was difficult for him to organise. We teach ourselves and I bring stuff I'm learning from my lesson. It's mostly the lasses who sing, but anyone welcome. We also have people with more experience drop in from time to time. Hope this is helpful information. Come along and try it out, you can see if it's for you. ---------- Post added 07-07-2015 at 19:06 ---------- The long reply is for you Prema and anyone else interested. ---------- Post added 08-07-2015 at 13:31 ---------- Hi Chris, sorry I couldn't PM you, apparently I have to have had at least 5 posts on a forum before I can do so. In answer to the question, we totally mix it up and bring any song print outs people find that they'd like to try, which can be just about anything. It usually helps if someone knows how to sing the song too as this assists in keeping time. The book was helpful but not everyone could buy it. Some of us also go to Lou Marriot's guitar jams on a Wednesday in Hillsborough which is £7 a session, and we get a lot of song hand outs from him, mostly folk, but still adds to the list, and it's steadily growing. We also have a Facebook page where we keep in touch and upload any songs people want to try. Let me know if you want to come along. Rita ---------- Post added 08-07-2015 at 13:42 ---------- Also, if anyone wants more details for Lou Marriots sessions let me know?
  5. There's a small group of us who play in a private room in a Kelham pub on a Sunday at 4pm - 6pm, it's free and we've been playing/learning together for around 1 and a half years. Friendly bunch and good atmosphere with different abilities in acoustic guitar. PM me if you'd like more information.
  6. I go to Lou's sessions on a Weds in Hillsborough, we play along to songs he picks but they are not lessons as such. Another group of around 6 of us have been learning together for about a year and a half and meet on a Sunday at the Fat Cat pub. Message me if you are interested. We have mixed ability and some of us are singer/songwriters.
  7. Hello. Did you find someone to collaborate with, if not please read. I'm a singer/songwriter, definitely different and creative. I've been singing many years but only recently ventured into songwriting and my own creative projects. None are complete songs as yet as I'm learning how to use the software to record and mix my own work, but they're not far off yet. I've been learning guitar for the last one and half years and sing with an informal guitar group. I'm particularly into harmonies and 'alternative' sounds. My influences and many and varied, but include Lykke Li, Fever Ray, Jeff Buckley, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Liz Fraser, Bon Iver, Feist, Sandy Denny, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Kate Bush, Ray LaMontagne, Neil Young etc.
